2018 mid-term election

The immigrant caravan, soon to be called "Exodus", now 5,000 and growing, continue to march northwards and by the weekend previous to election Tuesday (and with heaps of Republican stealthy help) they will probably manage to get to the Texas border as an angry 20,000 "mongrelized" mob decided to break down the door. That together with Trump's transgender move will stir the kind of hysteric reaction, active inaction and opinion dispersion of liberals in that way that deeply upsets or puts off most of the Usaian population causing the expected blue wave to turn red.

Welcome to Mussolini-Chávez-like populism.

In the long run, they are doing the Democratic party a favour, as Trump is soon to crash the country he's recklessly driving and it's good he does it with Democrats hands and legs tied, so 2020 could be blue.

Obviously, all these poor, desperate people are paid actors.
Not sure if employed by Soros or Mercer, though...

Oh so you're telling me a bunch of immigrant crisis actors are going to cross the border and take away jobs from our hard working American crisis actors?

If you can gamble on elections, I recommend emotional hedging for everyone.

Republicans will keep Congress and bury the Mueller Report so deep that it will take a team of Archaeologists to find it, 30 years from now.

But maybe I'm still being too optimistic.

I mean sooner or later, absent everything, the pendulum is going to swing back over the Democrats side because that's just how it works.

Then it sounds like it would make a lot of sense for you to bet a lot of money on a republican victory.

After election night 2016 can anyone ever be shocked, again? I expect a split Congress with the Dems taking the House and the GOP holding the Senate. I will not be shocked, though, if the GOP holds both. Apparently simply running against the other guy doesn't work as well for Dems. And it's pretty hard to get it through voters' heads that their Congressional vote and Senate vote are somehow related to the overall goings on in Washington. We've seen countless surveys where the polled want to throw all the bums out except their own bums.

That's a fallacy. Just because we have seen swings in the balance of power between parties does not mean it will continue.

It also speaks nothing about controlling elections through voter suppression, gerrymandering and controlling the courts.

In my State of Washington, the Democrats have solidly controlled both US Senate seats for 80 years except for a single term in one of the seats from 1980 to 86. I can look throughout the US where one party has dominated a State's political landscape.

Shock isn't the full issue. If you would be bummed by a certain outcome, additional money in the pocket would help alleviate it.

Congress; a 18% approval rating and a 98% reelection rating. It really does boggle the mind.

"They are all a bunch of crooks except for my Congressperson" is a very common feeling.
A lot of how a congressman is judged is usually based on local issues; how much pork a congressman brings home, etc.
The exception is when an election is "Natonalised";when a election centers on national issues. THat Happened in 2006 anf 2010' the question is if it has happened in 2018.

I am convinced this is the last chance to save Democracy in the US by peaceful means;if the Dems don't st least take back the house the slide toward a one part totaliran state will become irreversialbe through normal means.
This election is not "Politics as Usual". Normally I woul;d probably with Joe's dislike of both parties, but this election I am pulling 100%$ for the Democrats, though I feel pretty unclean doing it since there is a lot about the dems I don't like very much.

I agree that a lot depends on these elections - but it's not just Congress - there are also governorships and AG positions up for grabs. As long as Democrats manage to do well somewhere I'll remain a bit hopeful.
