Remember that Donnie has as advisors the casting call for support actors in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. They are obsessed and they're feeding an even more obsessed individual. Short of his concession speech, this is the biggest audience he will ever again have. If he thinks that he can leave another three dozen people thinking "half-brother... Kenyan... see? I knew it" he'll be happy. Time's running out and if we trust Omarosa, he got into this whole thing to best Obama in the schoolyard wolf-ticket competition. So far, Obama's made him his little bitch and this is Donnie's chance to ruin his legacy (in his own warped mind).

The source on the Get Even With Obama thing is Loser Omarosa. (She couldn't win The Apprentice in several goes, but was a bigger bitch than anyone on the show, so he's hired her, of course.) She said in an interview that it was being carved up by Barack Obama that got him into this in the first place and that his greatest revenge will be when the whole world has to look up to him.

This is really the kind of petulant child Trump is. We keep expecting (well, dreamers do) him to pivot to presidential or at least civilized, but he tells us and no one believes him that he wants to run as himself. This is himself. Petty and mean and delusional. And his current cadre of key advisors are just like him.

If I were his advisor, I'd suggest he break down in tears and confess his sinful nature and accept Jesus as his savior, right there, live on TV. I think taking religion is his best shot at salvaging the messes he's made. But he'd never do it, because it would require admitting error and at least faking humility, and Trump couldn't do either of those things. Not even to actually save himself from literal damnation.

He is completely incapable of admitting to be wrong. Even when it appears he's contrite he uses enough weasels words so that it always comes out as "Maybe I wasn't right, but I wasn't wrong."

It's not rumor. President Obama and his half brother don't really have a relationship. Malik is a jerk that tried to capitalize on being related to Obama and the relationship went sour when Obama didn't play along. The alt reich have attempted to graft this into their racist narrative that people of color are too stupid to realize they're being conned by Democrats and once they're shown this by the brilliant white nationalists they'll stop voting for Democrats. While doing this they either ignore or hand wave away that Republican's hyper-active efforts to disenfranchise people of color might have a stronger effect on their voting patterns.
