2012 Debates

Incidentally, since - from what I've heard about the Romney Smirk and his body language - I don't think this will really go that well for Romney, how long do you think it will be before the GOP starts to complain about how the "liberal media" took camera shots specifically geared to make Romney look bad?

Anyone want to take that bet?

Which is silly. It's fun to see politicians pretend they know what's going on in classrooms.

Despite being an Obama supporter, as a high school and college teacher, I have to agree with this statement.

Interesting to hear Romney finally address the question of his lack of details as to how he intends to do the things he wants to do.

Namely that he has no details. His plan is to go to congress and repeat his general principles and then figure out how to get it done.

I can't imagine how that should appeal to anyone. I would equate it him with him saying that he has no idea how to get it done, and that he in fact does not know if it's even possible.

That is sort of how Obama ended up working on "Obama Care," he let congress sort it out to one degree or another. But the main difference is that he came INTO the discussion with a plan of his own.

I am surprised that Romney would come out and basically say "hey, I don't know how I am going to do any of this stuff, but trust me, I will bring everyone together to get it done."

Mr. Obama, why not work with teachers and actual educators instead of governors to decide what's best for education policy?

Did Romney just say he brings no specific plans, but rather he brings principles?

*edit to add:

I think that was the first landed blow in what has been a pretty bloodless debate.

Obama nailed Romney on his lack of specifics, and Romney responded by pretty much saying "Yes, I have no specifics".

Mattus, maybe better for a sidebar, but how do you view parent's commitment to helping you educate their kids? I hope that my wife and I are doing enough to help our kids' teachers.

Obama seems incapable of going for knockout punches. He makes wry little references to the lack of specifics in Romney's plans, and then just drops it, every time

PM me. That's a long conversation.

What I found most shocking is that Obama named 3 separate instances of a lack of details coming out of Romney:

- Tax changes offset by closing loopholes and exemptions
- Repeal Dodd Frank and replace it with something better
- Repeal Obamacare and replace it with something better

And Romney flat out admitted that he had no details as to how he would do any of those things. :jaw-dropp
