Sharon is committed to a Gaza withdrawal. However, he doesn't want to be seen as just running from the Palestinians. Do recent events such as

a) Destroying the Zoo
b) Mass destruction of housing
c) Mass infiltration of heavy weapons

signal a scorched earth policy. This is to let the Palestinians know that even if he is withdrawing, it's not because he can't just blow them up if he wanted to.

Whew. I thought this was going to be about something controversial and c ontentious, like the thread purge.

Thank goodness its just the Palestine/Israel thing.

Following Israel's demolition of the local zoo, various critters well-equiped in the tooth & claw department are now loose including seven jaguars. As one of the zoo's officials says - "they could easily kill a small child". Foxes, wolves and raccoons are also on the run.

Is there some other planet we could move to?

"Gaza Incursions Reminds Sharon Ally of Holocaust

Justice Minister Yosef Lapid, himself a Holocaust survivor, said he told a cabinet session that Israel was courting further international condemnation if the army continued its campaign of demolishing houses in the Rafah refugee camp "On TV I saw an old woman rummaging through the ruins of her house looking for her medication, and it reminded me of my grandmother who was thrown out of her house during the Shoah," or Holocaust, Lapid told Israel radio in an interview after the weekly session....

The destruction of homes must stop because it is "inhuman, un-Jewish, and causes us great harm around the world," Lapid added. "In the end we'll be kicked out of the U.N., we'll be put on trial in The Hague [seat of the International Court of Justice], and no one will want to have anything to do with us."

"We look like monsters in the eyes of the world," Lapid told Israel Radio. "This makes me sick."

"Israeli Arabs protest 'Palestinian Holocaust'

Thousands of Israeli Arabs and Jewish peace activists are expected to take part in protest actions over the weekend against what the leadership of the Arab community has described as the "Palestinian Holocaust." "
