A movie opening next weekend called "Now You See Me" a heist film about a group of magicians turned Robin Hood style bank robbers features Morgan Freeman as a retired expert Magician turned debunker of mystics and people claiming to have real magic powers who is employed by the FBI to try to catch
the crimininals. SOmehow the resembelence strikes me as being somewhat more then coincidence.
Anyway it stars Isla FIsher as a sexy Lady Escape Artist, so they have my money....

The movie was very entertaining but the ending really bothered me. This post explains why but spoils all the twists.

Morgan Freeman's skeptic character is the villain. In the past he revealed all the tricks of a famous magician called The Shrike. The Shrike tried to make a comeback by being locked in a safe and dropped in a river but he never surfaced and was presumed dead.

In the movie's present The Four Horseman, four magicians brought together under mysterious circumstances, perform a final trick which frames the Morgan Freeman character for stealing millions of dollars. The person behind The Four Horseman and all their tricks is the FBI agent investigating the case. He is the son of The Shrike and has been planning his revenge against the Morgan Freeman character his whole life. So Morgan Freeman is evil for exposing The Shrike and his son is justified in getting Morgan Freeman's character put in prison for probably the rest of his life.

The movie ultimately presents skeptics as bad guys even though the Morgan Freeman character is never portrayed as a particularly bad person during the rest of the movie. He was pretty greedy but his morals weren't really any worse than the rest of the magician characters who were pretty shady themselves before being brought together for The Shrike's son's revenge.

I've loved Morgan Freeman since he was Easy Reader, but now I think I will love him more.

:heartbeat:

Morgan's character in the movie is someone who makes his living telling how magic tricks are done - for money.

I enjoyed the movie but it has some serious flaws - maybe they should have gone for really over the top black hat style bad guys.

How are the mystics and woos portrayed in the movie?

I thought this movie sucked mainly because the characters of the 4 horsemen were never developed and never had any impact on the story. Then I never felt that they were in jeopardy in any way, and there was no tension at all in the action.

Dunno guys, It totally had me. I loved it, and it was great seeing Morgan Freeman again... would recommend it to anyone..
