Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

You'll have to talk to Jenny in HR.

Members of Congress are paid twice a month, according to their annual salaries. I believe that stops on the effective date of their departure from their Houses. Gaetz has served more than five years in Congress, so he is eligible for a pension at age 62, regardless of the reason for his departure.
Same as anybody else who works for the Feds.

Since the Republicans want to raise the age of retirement for Social Security benefits,

Funny how members of Congress get a pension at age 62 paid for by people's taxes, but the GOP wants to raise the age to receive full Social Security benefits to 70.

America’s seniors are perfectly free to get themselves elected to congress if such benefits are that important.

To clarify 62 is the elgiblilty age for all civilian federal employees to retire with full benefits.
Miliatary is a bit different, it's 20 years regardless of age.

Pretty sure that's not entirely true. You have to have years of service to get full benefits. For the government I work in it's age + years of service = 90 before my pension is fully vested. Also, they're talking about social security, not federal pensions. Military is just not relevant really at all.

For members of Congress, five years of service qualifies them for full benefits that vest at age 62. Naturally for Senators this is satisfied by one term. For Representatives, 2.5 terms suffices. Gaetz resigned in his 4th term.

I knew it was short for congress, it was more the "all civilian federal employees" I was contesting. Always good information to know though.

Five years for All federal civilian workers also.
Main diffrenceis the COngressinal pensions are alot more generous in amount............

Gaetz might have company in the failed Cabinent post club: Hegseth chances seem to be shrinking by the hour.
What is interesting is that Trump is not rushing out to defend Hegseth; Donnie put a lot more effort into defeding Gaetz.

Donny doesn't know Hegseth, probably has never met him ever. He just knows him from TV. He probably thinks Hegseth can just go back to that job if he doesn't get to be Defense Sec.

So you're saying that no matter what position you work in for the federal government, after 5 years of service you can retire with full pension and benefits? There's no way that's true. Do you have a link for that because I've never heard of that before and every person in the US would be applying for federal government jobs.

It a disgrace for the GOP, but it does not matter practically, we all know it is going to be leaked.
Maybe, but if it's leaked then rage can simply be directed towards the leaker not Gaetz.

It is however a clear indication as to the lack of Republican resistance to Trump and IMO a wake up call to those expecting some sort of moderation from the adults.

I would guess that for any US civil or public servant the situation is going to be similar to mine within the Irish civil service, you have to have 40 years service and be of pensionable age to get a full employment pension. The only likely exception is going to be members of emergence or defence forces subject to mandatory early retirement.

I agree. As shown before, they are scared to death of his displeasure. They know what a petty, vengeful man-child he is. They are completely in his pocket and he knows it.

So the house ethics committee has reversed itself and decided to release the Gaetz report soon. In attempting to get in front of it, Gaetz posted this bizarre tweet...

I mean come on people...who among us has not paid underage women money for nothing at all?

I remember a time when it would be a major scandal for an elected representative to use the F word in public. Now that's only about the 5th most bizarre thing in that tweet. Its amazing how far public discourse has fallen in a mere couple of decades.

Sigh, remember the olden days when government was run by true gentlemen, who knew to pay their young ladies (and lads) generously, on time, and without fuss? Ours is a civilization in decline.
