Moderated Donald Sterling, Owner of the Clippers, is Racist

This thread played out pretty much as expected. Liberals criticize and mock the nut bag while conservatives dribble out tu quoque's, non sequiturs, and false equivalencies.

Haven't seen this, at least on this thread. Can you provide even one example?

<snip>

It seems to me that a relative few conservatives actually defend the racist comments of fellow conservatives. The difference I see between conservatives and liberals is that most conservatives tend to go or remain silent when one of their own makes obviously racist comments, whereas liberals tend to condemn the person, regardless of their place on the political spectrum.

I disagree, and I suspect your observation is a form of begging the question. It may seem like it's true to many liberals that conservatives don't condemn racist comments, but it's probably because there is substantial disagreement between liberals and conservatives about what constitutes a racist comment.

Note that a large part of the disagreement arises from the fact that many liberals view conservatism as inherently racist. Those people are inclined to view any ambiguous or borderline comments through the prism of that view. The opposite effect allows those same liberals to forgive unfortunate comments by, say, Harry Reid, Joe Biden, and the late Robert Byrd (a particularly poignant example). In a way, publicly subscribing to liberal views acts as a shield against accusations of racism.

I can't believe how pathetically you people derail these topics to your own pathetic partisan agendas.
"You people"? I'm way not a fan of vague criticism like this. How are we supposed to know if we're among "you people"? And how are we supposed to know which specific comment(s) you deem pathetic, so that we can weigh your criticism and maybe learn from it?

I'd like to recommend Michael McCann's piece,

What's next for NBA in Donald Sterling case from a legal standpoint?

Especially his outlining of the issues the NBA is going to face authenticating the recording.

Confirming the authenticity of the recording could prove difficult. The original recording is presumably in the possession of TMZ. The NBA, as a private business, has no subpoena power to force TMZ or any other entity to turn it over. TMZ may be reluctant to share the original recording, especially if it was obtained on the condition that it would not be shared. TMZ may also be reluctant to share the recording because the recording itself could be unlawful.

Under California penal law, it is a crime to intentionally record a confidential conversation without the consent of the person or persons being recorded. This type of eavesdropping also empowers victims of the unlawful recording to sue for money damages. TMZ's own exposure to liability is far less than the person or persons who made the recording. TMZ is a media company with broad First Amendment rights, especially on matters that are newsworthy. Still, media companies can be sued for publication of private facts, and Sterling, an attorney by trade, could consider legal action.

It's vague because I'm writing this on a phone... I will elaborate tonight when I'm at work.

Just 10 minutes later....

...The opposite effect allows those same liberals to forgive unfortunate comments by, say, Harry Reid, Joe Biden, and the late Robert Byrd (a particularly poignant example). In a way, publicly subscribing to liberal views acts as a shield against accusations of racism.

That doesn't count.
Wrong, that's just one example of exactly what I was talking about

DavidJames had already singled ABC10 out as the "nut bag."
Wrong again, the nut bag is the subject of this thread.
He was implying that other conservatives were guilty of dribbling out "tu quoques, non sequiturs, and false equivalencies."
Yes, like ABC, Apple, Caper and OMG, you (see my post above).

LOL. Got it. I thought you were referring to ABC10, who is an obvious troll. I do find it odd to award brownie points for criticizing and mocking such an easy and obvious target as Sterling.

Ok, now we're back on track since you stand by the claim that I thought you were making. Please give me at least one example. Since you claim that I am included in the group to which you were referring, please point out where I dribbled out a logical fallacy. If you like, you can expand your search to my posts on other threads as well.

The example you gave above is merely an excerpted quote of mine. Please point out the logical fallacy.

I don't think there really is any more "free speech" in this age of trial by the court of public opinion.

~Dr. Imago

In what historic era was there no such thing as 'court of public opinion'? You have never been free of the social consequences of unpopular opinions. The opinions that are unpopular might change, but not the consequences of espousing them. ( the answer is never, btw )

I see.

DavidJames had already singled ABC10 out as the "nut bag."

No, in point of fact, he hadn't.

He was implying that other conservatives were guilty of dribbling out "tu quotes, non sequiturs, and false equivalencies."

Of which you asked for one example. One example was provided. You then claimed that one example "doesn't count". You seem to be changing the rules as you go to achieve the result you desire.

That's because a lot of people define "liberalism" as standing by the Democratic party and its politicians, no matter what.

If you look at the exchange which occurred more than half an hour before you posted this, you will/should see that I misunderstood to whom DavidJames was referring.

Nope. DavidJames has confirmed that his claim extends to non-ABC10 "conservative" posters here. If he or you gives me an example, I will concede that my challenge has been met, although that would still come far short of justifying his rather broad claim.

Lot's of laughs, fun and games from the commentators on the Lib Channels of MSNBC and CNN trying to slide pass the remarks of this white racist Democrat, including but not limited to his opinion on black and white Jews. OUCH. Only the Left Wing Noise Machine could possibly connect the Holocaust to an 81 year old man messing around with a younger woman for sex. Gotta love America. Don is the lib's guy.:D
Sunny and Ashley churning the story on CNN. Life is great!
At least the plane is off their news cycle right now.
Sorry about the withdrawn award Don, but such is life in the big city and you got two from the NAACP already.
BTW, the story is about Don Sterling not anonymous posters on a discussion forum where the idea is to attack the post and not the pajama clad poster. And a great Good Morning to Cliven Bundy. Looking good Clive.

Before I address this post, to be clear, in my view Sterling is a blatant racist and I condemn him without qualification. ABC10, if you or anyone else responds to this post, please state if you agree with me so far. Then maybe we can clearly distinguish where it is that we diverge instead of talking past one another.

As for the above, short form response: Evidence please?

Some of the things you've posted to this thread have already been shown to be misleading at best. (Your failure to respond to Nova Land's debunking is telling, but I digress.) Without evidence, my trust in the accuracy of your claims is precisely nil.

It's not about me. Evidence of what??? What's misleading??
It's not my claims, but the ever ongoing 24/7 news cycle of the media . It's all over the airwaves and internet. Who is Nova and what did he/she debunk? It's not my story. It's Don Sterling. I think poor 81 year old Don got caught rambling in a private conversation with his mistress. Is he racist? I don't know and don't care if he is anyway. Putting Don in stocks on the public green won't be changing anyone's views. And where are the people directly affected by his remarks? Wearing a warm up suit inside out does not do it.
This is a discussion board sharing opinions not Mute Court.
