Dave,
- I'll see if I can get a copy from the State library. It's a time consuming process for me, so don't hold your breath.
- I assume that you no longer have a copy yourself (that you could quote from)?

Nope, sold it back to the campus bookstore.

Pixel,
- An hour, for me, is quite a long time. And looking quickly at the length of the video, I thought it said 1:54, rather than 1:01:54...

- Anyway, I did watch a little, but her topic was "living without free will" and I figured it would take awhile to get to the "illusion of self" part. Could you quote or paraphrase what she says about the illusion of self? Or maybe, just direct me to the part you're referring to?
An hour is a long time for all of us. We all have lives and many of us have hobbies, careers, families and other responsibilities. Yet we find or make the time to be informed on the subjects we discuss on here. We follow links and read them, we use the search function on this website to ensure we've kept up with the threads in which we participate, and we use search engines to find websites or articles so that we can learn more. We welcome correction from those with more knowledge and experience, because learning is a lifelong pursuit.

Why is your time more precious to you than ours, particularly given that you claim to be immortal and thus have unlimited time to increase your knowledge and understanding? This thread has been dragging on for almost 6,000 posts and 17 months, and you've also discussed this notion of immortality/Bayeseian statistics/consciousness on other boards in the past. Expecting you to do a little research to support your claims is not unreasonable, particularly since it is not more than everyone else in the thread is doing to rebut your claims. We are doing the research and the reading, you should be doing it too.

Good heavens, man! It's barely half 9 in the morning! Have the decency to wait until I've finished my coffee.
The beauty of time zones is that someone, somewhere is always enjoying a beer. :alc: I think Alan Jackson (and Jimmy Buffet) may have mentioned something like that in a song.

So you're telling me the Ozzies have invented time travel?

Or maybe that immortality is real but applies only to Happy Hour?

This thread has been very informative to me. Just today I learned that:

1. Jabba will ask for proof, then refuse to read or to see it when it is actually provided to him.

2. It would take less time to read a textbook than to watch a short video.

3. It would take less time to contact, drive to, and take a statistics professor to lunch than to watch a short video.

4. It would take less time to participate in 144 pages in a Discussion forum than to watch a short video.

5. Our time is considered by Jabba to be far less valuable than Jabba's time (repeatedly seen before in this thread).

6. Thinking about immortality may be Jabba's hobby and represent his strong conviction but Jabba has no interest in reading or seeing any evidence that is relevant to his theory if it goes against his theory. This is particularly interesting to me, because if someone publishes something, anything, questioning my ideas, I must read it immediately! I have to find out what they said! Maybe they are right, in which case I want to know why, or they are wrong, in which case I want to know why.

7. Jabba will use and even introduce words which he later claims to not understand.

Jabba,

Did the statistics professor ever reply to your email? if so, what did he say? Will he let you quote him here? If so, please quote what he said about your theory. Will you every get to meet him for lunch or coffee?

Still no non-debunked evidence about the existence of the "self" as you define it?
Still no proof as you promised?
Oh well, perhaps tomorrow...

Do you think the shark has a "self?" Does it see itself as a separate entity distinct from other sharks? A "self" identity? If so, isn't it also immortal?
