At least 27 killed 109 wounded with knives

Old Kingon saying: Four thousand throats may be cut in one night by a running man.

Terrorism? Hard to think of any other motive.

Maybe, but the BBC report mentions that:

"Mass stabbings are not uncommon in China"

Which takes us nowhere, of course, but indicates there might be a motive other than terror fear slight concernism.

My first reaction to hearing this story is "That must've been AWESOME! I wanna see a video!" I can't tell you how disappointed I was to learn that not everyone in China knows karate.

But there were multiple assailants, not a lone nut. That's why terrorism seems far more likely to me.

The local authorities have told the state news agency, Xinhua, that it was an "organized, premeditated terrorist attack".

Weirdest terrorist attack I can recall from recent history. A knife-wielding mob?

I wonder if perhaps some kind of cult was involved, like in the case of the Tokyo subway poisoning.

I seem to recall folks with machetes killed hundreds of thousands of people in Rwanda back in the early 1990s...

.
Or has a cell phone to capture the event and put it on YouTube! Bummer!

According to the BBC Chinese officials are blaming a Muslim seperatist group for the attack:

Assuming this is true, it's going to be interesting to see how this gets handled. Those of us old enough to remember the US/USSR/China three-way standoff may have a little trouble wrapping our heads around the fact that all three may now have a common enemy.

Whether it is true in this case or not - and it looked like it from the beginning. It is true in general - Muslim separatist groups in Western China often make the news.
