Merged Ukraine erupts in riots and general strike.

You know, I keep wondering. A few years back Russia and Georgia went at it, ending up with Russia controlling a good bit of Georgian territory, where the population was a Russian majority. The government of Georgia itself bore a good bit of the blame for that, but the end result did not exactly displease Russia, who ended up with a de facto expansion of territory.

What are the chances of Russia forcing the pro-Russian elements in the Ukrainian government to avoid concessions until after the Olympics, followed by a Russian incursion into eastern Ukraine, to "protect" the ethnic Russians?
I seem to recall, back in the 70's, an incursion by Turkish military to protect ethnic Turks on Cyprus.

From the point of view of whomever is in charge in Russia, it seems a likely and even rational policy, albeit one fraught with a lot of downside since things could get really rough really quick. See also the international community intervening with weapons and troops to support selected ethnic enclaves during the 90's.

Maybe a policy of that sort is more frequent than we might suppose?

You, along with 7 other billion people would be better off buying yourselves tombstones, and I'm not talking about cheap frozen goods.

Putin's decision to send force into the Ukrainian situation, should it come to that, will not result in WW3, nuclear annihilation and death tolls into the billions.

That may be true, but it has the potential to be very messy, and even bloody. Hoping it doesn't come to that.

You can't really compare the two situations. The Turkish invasion of Cyprus followed years of ethnic violence from both sides. This is not the case with Ukraine, no one is conducting oppression of Russians or Ukrainians based on their nationality, no one is contemplating running one or the other group out of their homes.
I'm not saying the Turkish invasion was justified because of this - it wasn't - but any Russian intervention in Ukraine would be far worse. Turks had a weak case, but they at least had a case.

Hi. La. Ri. Ous.

'This is what you cook for Ukraine?' State Dept. Psaki grilled over leaked tape

Wow yeah, looks like this opposition movement is losing some credibility. I won't jump to conclusions though, but I'd say the current president now has an effective means to push back against pro-western forces. Although, I think Ukraine should just split.

"With whom" is the question. The European media is jumping on her F-Word crime staying silent about their own ambitions and that - does she call him Cliche? - the boxer is the German puppet. The hardcore people on the ground know already about who they are supported by (and would immediately turn into Nuland's worst nightmare should they come to power). Leaves some Ukrainians who might have been to young to understand Orange Revolution 1.0. And hopefully a lot of Americans still oblivious to what "their" regime does in the world, but I doubt they'll receive the broadcast.

Pyatt tweet today. There's the boxer, and that Neo-Nazi guy again, to Nuland's right. Who cares, John McCain has met worse people in Syria.

My question is, why is the west backing such a far right extremist candidate? It's not like the guy is a centrist or a moderate conservative. This guy is a hardcore fatherland type. I've seen people in this very same thread dismiss valid allegations that the vast majority of rioters were neo-nazis. I don't know why the disbelief, but if this guy is leading the charge, then could you see why the claim has some validity?

Allegiations not backed by evidence... and I don't see much but assertions in last posts either.

I linked a reliable post that was not RT news and I remember distinctly that you did not read it. You only read what confirms your bias. The party regions opposition in Ukraine compose mostly of nationalists and fascists. These aren't unbacked allegations. Feel free to find my old post and read it.

I think it pretty apparent that some people here are perfectly willing to sell the people of the Ukraine down the river in order to appease Putin and have "peace in our time".
Now all they need to do is go out and buy themselves an Umbrella.

It is clear that many people here are ok with the re-rise of fascism and radical nationalism on the continent of Europe. Now all they need to do is write my struggle and the vision of EU nationalists will be complete.

Oh, and I've said this I think twice now. Why shouldn't east and west Ukraine just split? That is an option. That would problem solve many of the problems being mentioned here in this thread. It's mostly western and northern Ukrainians rioting against the Party of Regions government, not eastern and southern Ukrainians. A peaceful split might be the best decision for all parties involved.
