Michelle Bachmann Chews Out Stephen Hawking

The issue is not about homosexual couples adopting children, but the bright, beautiful, educated and successful Representative Michele Bachmann. Pretty proud!
Oh and comparison between her and Obama. At least she can give a good speech without a TOTUS which Barack can't.

Firstly, I've yet to hear Bachmann give a good speech, i.e. one which is free of error factual distortions and whining.

Secondly, I seem to remember that Obama's last State of the Union didn't use a teleprompter at all. And it was a long speech. In fact he is particularly good at off-the-cuff speeches and spontaneous addresses. Unlike you-know-who.

Michele has given great speeches. The TOTUS was left and right at the boring SOTU.

Michele is beautiful and smart. Not only is she a lawyer, but raised 5 biological children and 23 foster children. What do you guys want from a bright over achieving female? Is this the pregnant and bare foot in the kitchen moment? Ladies, if we are not for us, who will be? Oh and it is one Michele with one L.

The big problem - the one that is the subject of this thread, and which you seem to have overlooked is that she's a complete twit when it comes to science. Consider her views on the theory of relativity and on quantum mechanics, or, for that matter, on the HPV vaccine (from this last site):

Bachmann pushed the disproved theory that the vaccine for HPV — which prevents cervical cancer — can cause mental retardation. That misinformation has had a wide and lasting impact: Vaccination rates are still remarkably low, and experts blame figureheads like Bachmann who communicated misleading information to the public.

So what??? Most of the rest of us ordinary, common, garden variety folk are not scientist either. Michele is a lawyer and Representative, not Sheldon. Nope, didn't miss any points. :jaw-dropp Michele is not that powerful to influence the HPV vaccine and neither is Hawkins. People can make up their own minds without other folk help or at least, the women and girls can.

And, that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the world is in such deep ****...

Right!! :D:D:D:D Sadly, none of us are that powerful to influence the world so much,
Thank the FSM for that little bit. Unfortunately there are just enough of the type you claim affiliation with to vote the idiots into power and keep them there.
That is sad. and dangerous.

Actually my guys Romney and Ryan didn't get in. It is the Lib Dem Obama now. I wonder if Obama remembers when he is talking about Congress that right now, the Dems are in control of the Senate?? Not for long, but now.

You are claiming that neither Romney or Ryan ever held elective office?

Not being a scientist is no excuse for attacking science; nor is it an excuse for not being acquainted with scientific concepts. It is, in fact, irresponsible for a public official whose legislative actions can affect national policy not to have a basic grounding in scientific concepts.

For example, I - who am also not a scientist - understand the basics of, for example, how a four stroke internal combustion engine works. This doesn't make me a potential designer of automobiles; nor does it even make me competent to be an auto mechanic. However, I at least have some concept of how my car works. Also, understanding that internal combustion involves a series of explosions lets me understand the pollution problems of the internal combustion engine: Everything that is completely burned in that instant of combustion is burned. Everything that is only partially burned remains so; whereas, in a continuous flame, those molecules of fuel not initially completely burned are usually eventually fully oxidized.

At very least, if Bachmann doesn't understand science, she can refrain from attacking it. Her attitude on science can translate into educational policy, such as - specifically in Bachmann's case - how biology is taught. Bachmann has advocated teaching the non-science of creationism as an alternate theory to evolution. And, yes, this does cause harm. I'm amazed that you would argue that her being a scientific ignoramus isn't a problem.

Likewise, she is in a position, as a member of the federal legislature and someone with national standing, to influence how many girls are vaccinated with the HPV vaccine. She will probably be indirectly responsible for some of these girls future deaths from cervical cancer.

The main problem here is that her attacks on science are driven by ideology. There's no logical reason she should be going out of her way to attack Einstein's theories of special and general relativity, quantum mechanics, or the concept of black holes. The reason she does so is that, were she to accept that scientists actually know something about the nature of things, she'd have to accept evolution and the reality of anthropogenic climate change.

I only wish Michele was so influential. She is one of over 400 members in the House.

So, are you saying you wish she could keep girls from getting the the HPV vaccine? Are you saying you wish she could enforce the teaching of creationism in place of or at least alongside that of evolution?

I also should point out that she is far from alone in her attacks on science. Consider the Republican antagonism toward climate change.

So apparently Stephen Hawking admitting he was wrong about black holes means all scientists are full of crap, according to Michelle Bachmann.

EDIT: And Dear God I'm thick, apparently the Borowitz Report is a satirical thing. -_-
How stupid. I can't describe how disgusted I am at this ignorant woman. People like her give America a bad name.
