The Selected Member Will Likely Be A Republican

I hope it's Steve King.

I know some people in his district--people who consider themselves "conservative"--who are embarrassed all to hell by the guy. These citizens know the difference between being "conservative" and meeting one or more of the Carlin criteria: being stupid, being full of [fertilizer] and being [extremely] nuts. King is all three, a triple threat. King stays up late at night thinking of brain-dead, phony, bat-spit crazy things to say, presumably so that hecan get headlines. King is not conservative; he's stupid, full of [fertilizer] and [extremely] nuts, which are qualities that know no political boundaries.

But the Texans are going to give King some competition. That state has a lot of triple threats of its own.

Who would we replace the current bunch with? Just more of the same, that is, politicians. :)
 
Mine is Nancy Pelosi, who I'd gladly nominate. But something tells me that Bill Maher won't pick her.
 
Prediction: Maher will fail if he does indeed pick a Republican. In the last two midterm elections of a second term President (1998 and 2006), the non-Presidential party has only lost 5 incumbent seats:

Republicans 1998: 5
Democrats 2006:0

Of the closest 10 House races in 2012, only four were won by Republicans. However, one of those seats belongs to Michelle Bachmann, who is retiring this year.

Of the fifteen seats that the Cook Political Report sees as tossups this year, 11 belong to the Democrats and 4 to the GOP; however, only one of the GOP seats has an incumbent (CO-6). There is one incumbent Republican in a district that Cook sees as leaning Democrat (CA-31), and that one was a fluke win for the GOP. There were three Dems in the primary and two Republicans, and the Dems split the votes, so that in the oddball California "Top Two" primary system the two Republicans ended up facing each other. So Maher might have a good pick here, except that it would hardly qualify as an upset.

He may fail, but your post reads a little like who will win the presidential election when the D.C. team with the racist name wins a specific game, or has a winning record. The question will be if Mahar has enough influence to bring off his challenge, like did Fox have enough to upset the presidential election (they didn't). I assume he will be smart enough to select a competitive district, and a real scum-bag to go after. The latter won't be much of a challenge, but the former??

Pick one, but remember, the Democrats won't have the advantage of Obama at the top of the ticket to bring out the minority vote. So whatever Republican incumbent Maher picks is going to have won in an election that the top of the ticket took by almost 4 percentage points.

Remember also that the Democrats are already talking about allocating resources more to the Senate.

Their calculation is uncomplicated. With only so much money to go around in an election year that is tilting the GOP’s way, Democrats need to concentrate resources on preserving the chamber they have now. Losing the Senate, they know, could doom whatever hopes Barack Obama has of salvaging the final years of his presidency.

No matter what incumbent Maher picks, he's unlikely to swing the meter at all. His best hope is to go after that California seat, but I suspect even there he may have as much hope as King Canute had of stopping the tides.

Didn't Rush Limbaugh try to meddle in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, by dragging it out as long as possible? Didn't work out now, did it.

Virtually all of Maher's viewers are left wing. His show is not going to do much to sway people to vote D instead of R.
