Democrat behind bars for domestic abuse

They should impeach him if possible. But it's not a first in Massachusetts. Boston Mayor Curley remained in office while serving time in federal prison.

ETA: Did you expect someone to defend him?

Democratic leaders are working to get him out of office.

The handcuffed lawmaker has been hauled before the state House Committee on Ethics twice within a week, as the House moves quickly to boot him if he refuses to quit. Top Democrats including Gov. Deval Patrick and House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo have repeatedly called for his resignation.

I don't think you'll find anyone that defends domestic assualt. At the very least they should kick him out of office. Glad to see he's spending some time in the clink too. Douchebag

Uh...good.

As in, good that he's behind bars, not good that he's into beating women. **** that guy.

Preferably, he resists the pressure to resign and they have to go through the process of booting him. I think it would send a stronger message.

Sometimes I wish elected officials like this wouldn't be allowed to resign, but would have to go through the expulsion process. At other times, I'm glad they're gone quickly.

Democrat Politician behind bars for domestic abuse.

A much better title, IMHO. Says it all about politicians.

There is nothing wrong with including the word Democrat. It's accurate. As a Democrat, I think it should be called out what his party is, so that maybe, just maybe, it will serve as a lesson to his other fellow Democrats.

If my understanding of American prisons, men who beat women are among the lowest of the low in the pecking order, and he's gonna have to be moved to solitary pretty damn quickly before anyone attacks him.

Pedophiles are easily the lowest of the low, but I see what you're saying. I am sure his attorney will have it take place on house arrest or something ridiculous like that.

I bet most of the people behind bars are Democrats, no news there.

Oh those prisoners tend to have a life expectancy of a few weeks. But AFAIK, prisoners in for assaulting a women are still despised quite a bit by the other inmates.
ETA: considering that this guy also happens to be a politician, yeah, he's either doing time in solitary or on house arrest.

Violent perps deserve jail time. I am fine with that.

I am more liberal than anything else and I want to see him lose his position.

......................

Did he give a reason why he is refusing to resign?

ETA:
He has refused to resign up to this point because he maintains his innocence and want to appeal the conviction, a process which, according to his lawyer, "may take longer than the six months he’s due to serve in prison."

From my perspective, I still think the ethics committee should continue to take steps to quickly remove him from office.
