Democrat behind bars for domestic abuse

I do, on some level, understand what the OP is saying. Obviously JREF is a left leaning site and some of the threads by the more...active democrats have a tendency to get a little petty.
Personally, I welcome threads like this. The fact is if it's limited to apples to apples threads, the Republican Party (of crazies) will be even more obvious.

As for the political tendencies of this forum. Considering it's a forum for critical thinkers, it leans exactly as I would expect :)

1) So, does it make any difference what party a criminal belongs to? The answer is no. Therefore, the title of this thread is pointless, stupid and mean-spirited.

Kinda funny to hear everyone saying this in this thread, only because the offender is a Democrat. There is absolutely no way the responses would have been the same had the offender been a Republican.

2) Are you going to actually participate in this thread you initiated, or are you going to do what you usually do, i.e. kick the ant-hill then run away?

As several have realized, I primarily started this thread as a counterpoint to the countless threads that are started associating the actions of an individual with the whole of the Republican party. I knew there was a double standard involved and thought it would be illustrative to see how it played out. You did a great job of showing the lack of intellectual honesty I suspected.

Wow.. didn't see THAT coming. ;)

Yep, everyone is condemning this schmuck.

If he was from the GOP you'd be defending him.

If you think members of a critical thinkers and skeptics forum didn't pick out that this was a bait thread from the word go, I believe you are mistaken. You picked the 1 reply where someone was drawn in, other than that every other post, and rightly so, was condemning this individual for his actions. No matter what your particular political affiliation anyone who hits a woman should be fired from whatever position they hold, and put in jail for the required amount of time. Whether that be politician or dog walker.

With this, I agree.

Not true. Consider Ziggurat's post #24 and its video of Democrat Bob Etheridge behaving like a jerk, in the thread on Michael Grimm. There's also a Democrat from the San Diego area - I forget his name - who was an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. Your statement amounts to an unsupported assertion.

Obviously JREF is a left leaning site ...
Well, strap my face to the side of a hog and throw me in the mud!!! You mean I've been ass-ociating with pinkos all these years? Who'd'a thunk it?

I came to this place because it seemed to have a higher proportion of people who thought for themselves.

Beanbag

If only the Democratic leadership in Massachusetts did something about this guy!

Oh wait.....

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
At least ten thought the punishment was too stiff.

The House rejected a bid by Representative Russell Holmes to reduce Henriquez’s punishment. That measure would have called for Henriquez’s censure, allowing him to keep his seat. The amendment died on a 143-10 vote. - See more at: http://www.boston.com/politicalinte...BVvxEjNfAUdNK/story.html#sthash.Wz6Av177.dpuf

Maybe.
The Massachusetts House voted today to expel Representative Carlos Henriquez, a Dorchester Democrat...The house voted, 146-5...
Maybe the difference of 5 were those who thought keeping his seat was wrong.

Yeah, that leaves 5. You can ask them why.

I don't think you'll find anyone that defends domestic assualt. At the very least they should kick him out of office. Glad to see he's spending some time in the clink too. Douchebag

As a Democrat and a person I find that not tolerable. Jail and dump him.

Let republicker's have all that trash.

Baa not as much fun as the former speakers of the house in Pennsylvania who ended up as cell mates.

I'm surprised that they managed to last more than a few weeks in prison, considering how crooked politicians are hated among the general public, let alone the general population of a prison.

At least the NAACP has Henriquez's back.

Shameful stuff, coming from the nation's oldest civil rights organization.

Not really, if you look at the argument that they are making.

1) He has appealed the conviction, so expelling him prior to the decision of the appellate court may result in him being found to have been wrongfully convicted and released, but still expelled. Hence they are saying wait because if you don't and his conviction is overturn, you would have violated his rights by tossing out an innocent man.

2) The actual rules themselves don't cover the situation. He has been guilty of a misdemeanour, whereas the rule only covers felonies. Thus tossing him out would violate his rights as he hasn't actually broken the rules. Interestingly on this one, if they toss him because of a misdemeanour, are they now going to toss every politician that is convicted of a misdemeanour from now on, or just in "special" circumstances.

I think they actually make some good points, though I'd still rather the guy got kicked.
