LDS II: The Mormons

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not only a Christian Church, but it is the true Church of Jesus Christ, and ALL Scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are Christian Scriptures.

Oh rubbish.

The BoM itself starts in with the lying in right from the get-go:

1 Nephi 1:2

2Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians.

On top of the ridiculous notion that a Jew at that time and place would have been writing in Egyptian we have the obvious fact of the Book of Abraham proving beyond any possible doubt that Joe the fiddler couldn't understand a single word of the language.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not only a Christian Church, but it is the true Church of Jesus Christ, and ALL Scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are Christian Scriptures.

How can that be when the books are flat out wrong? The BoM got most of the major details wrong and the BOA is wrong from start to finish. Odd use of the word true.

Not if you ask the vast majority of Christians.

I think if you would ask any of those christians who are not CJCLDS that you would find that they disagree with you completely.

As you keep repeating Craig. Do you think continually asserting incorrect opinions will somehow make them correct? Not so. Truth remains truth regardless of how many times the foolish and the ignorant rant and rave against it.

Yet you fail to recognize the truth. Your original OP makes the assertion that we are the progeny of two individuals. The truth is the human species is not the result of two incestuous clones, "created" from dirt and ribs, as stated in Genesis. You can continue deny what has been proven by the different sciences all you want. You can continue to preach these ancient writings that hold no valid insight on how a bunch of ignorant nomads thought they could explain the origins of anything. At the end of the day, the truth has already been revealed, with more to come. We know there was no Adam, Eve, or a "Cain" cursed with dark skin.

We can explain why you are wrong on all you try to pass off as truth. You can't explain why you are right on your assertions.

According to every denomination I've ever studied or church I've attended, that is a blasphemous lie. You are NOT a Christian. You are a pagan whose pantheon includes a Jesus-like figure and a bastardized version of the King James Bible. You are no more a Christian than practitioners of Islam.

Lying about being a Christian will not sway anyone with so much as a remedial comprehension of the dogma of both religions.

You can babble all you want about your faith, but do NOT tell me a lie as obvious and shoddy as claiming to be a Christian. You are not. You are a pagan.

Do you ever intend to address the fact that Jesus, said to be said the be the christ, is recorded, in the xianist canon, as specifically repudiating the idea of marriage in the afterlife?

Original post in AAH

I did not say that the LDS Church isn't Christian, nor that it's scriptures were not Christian scriptures. I said that other Christian denominations don't accept our scriptures, which is true. I agree that our Quad (Bible, BofM, D&C, PoGP) are Christian scripture in that they testify of Christ, but I disagree that all Christians would consider Christian scripture to include the LDS Quad.

Where I live we tend to talk of Christians as being ourselves and other denominations. I will admit that I've not heard the term "Christian Scriptures" used in the Church to reference the LDS books, or if I have it went in one ear and out the other. Everyone I know tends to call them LDS Scriptures, like they do on lds.org, here are a few examples.

History of LDS Scriptures.
2013 Edition of the LDS Scriptures

During General Conference and Church we're most apt to just call them "the Scriptures." So that's why it wouldn't really occur to me to refer to our books as the "Christian Scriptures," especially on a forum where the term Christian has different meanings to different people.

I agree with what is posted above, but you've changed it to make it more clear. When you are clear and precise, and teach the true doctrines of the LDS Church, you will find that I am, for the most part agreeable. :D

That is of course supposition, and is a survey yet to be done.

No one Christian, nor denomination, has the right to tell another who professes to be Christian that they are not. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whilst claiming her rightful status as the true Church of Christ, does not deny that others who claim to be so are Christian and their Churches Christian Churches.

That's a feature not a bug for a prophet. He was translating by the power of god not the understanding of man so being fluent in the language removes the magic. He was translating the spiritual values not the actual mundane values so we would not expect an exact one to one correspondence with the hieroglyphs./apologist off:)

Inherent contradiction.

How can the LDS be the "true church" when your books are wrong? The BoM puts horses and chariots in the Pre Colombian Americas. This is factually incorrect. Nothing in the BoA actually relates to what is on the papyrus. The entire BoA is Smith being caught in a lie. Please explain how yours is the true church when the texts upon which it based are inaccurate.

Please understand that I find Smith's mob no more (or less) credible than Frances's, or the Wesleys', or Luther's...but I would really, really appreciate it is you would address the fact that your mob disagrees with what are recorded, in the xianist canon, as the teachings of Jesus, himself.

IMO, that's a rather awkward and contradictory position. If LDS claims to be the "true" church, does that not imply that it considers other churches to be not true?

A long time ago in this thread I analogized the Book Of Abraham thusly:

Imagine that a few thousand years from now, some self-professed prophet claims that he's translated an ancient piece of text written in a long dead language known as "English", deciphering it as a religious history that affirms his spiritual claims. Then, a few decades later, linguistic scholars are able to restore the ancient English language so thoroughly that it can be clearly read for its original meaning. The actual translation of the prophet's text is revealed to be, "WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD! Not intended for children under four, or anyone else with a tendency to place inedible objects in their mouths."

Here is a truth that many to their sorrow will realise too late:

Alma 12:14
14 For our words will condemn us, yea, all our works will condemn us; we shall not be found spotless; and our thoughts will also condemn us; and in this awful state we shall not dare to look up to our God; and we would fain be glad if we could command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence.

"ABC15 will broadcast a rare in-depth look at the new Gilbert Mormon temple during a 30-minute special airing at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17.
The special will show viewers what goes on inside the Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and will be broadcast the night before the church opens the doors to its new Gilbert temple, allowing hundreds of thousands of members and non-members alike a free tour of the building".

Are you simply ignoring the fact that your mob accepts concepts as "christian" that Jesus. said to be said to be "the christ" is said to have specifically repudiated in the xianist canon? (Not to mention incorporating things he, himself, is not ever said to have addressed, much less condemned...)

How does that make your mob the "true" church? What about all the other "true" churches?

Despite misunderstandings and some false doctrines, the core belief and message of Christianity and the words of the Lord which are taught are Christian.
