LDS II: The Mormons

Wow Janadelle. If God was actually making this stuff up then he might have found better writers and editors so that anyone reading it could know what the eff he was trying to say. I might dismiss gibberish writing for being cryptic but that just gives bad writing meaning where meaningless is more like what it actually is. The bible and book of Mormon didn't have editors from "The NewYorker"obviously. I guess whoever wrote it thought if they said, spake , behold , harken, thine and ye enough then it would sound divine enough that any fool would believe it.
Joseph Smith was good at sounding pseudo middle english. I don't know why I care but Joseph Smith was not a real christian anyway.
The bible is only a poorly written myth that may have been a little more coherent before it was translated. The present form is just a good example of the telephone game in middle english. As one of the oldest texts there is, the bible is quaint and interesting for the historical perspective but it is obvious that there were few professional writers back then who knew how to polish a piece.

Eternal Law, written in the beginning of time... previous to our mortal existence, has been given to mortality since the time the Spiritual bodies of our progenitors Adam and Eve received their mortal bodies... and the veil of forgetfulness, to prevent the conscious remembrance of previous great knowledge.
So began the trial of mortality.
[SNIP!]

It never happened.

You have no idea how ironic I find it that the LDS do not even use Joseph Smith's Inspired Version of the Bible because they don't trust it. There are multiple and conflicting versions of the Book of Mormon and the D&C, not to mention Mormon history itself.

And to think, this legacy of scriptural chaos all in less than 200 years.

Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourself every girl who has never slept with a man. - Numbers 31:17-18

There have been thousands of amendments to the Book of Mormon since it was first published. A relatively recent one, probably inspired by the LDS desire to maintain tax-exempt status, not now accorded to racist organisations in the USA, is described in http://www.mrm.org/white-and-delightsome
For much of its history, the Salt Lake City-based LDS Church edition of the Book of Mormon taught that dark-skinned Lamanites (Indians) would eventually experience a change in the color of their skin should they embrace the Book of Mormon. Except for a single edition (1840), 2 Nephi 30:6 has read:

"...their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and a delightsome people."

In 1981, the LDS Church decided to change what Joseph Smith called "the most correct of any book on earth" by reverting to the wording of the lone 1840 edition. The word "white" was replaced with the word "pure."

That is lies and slander.

It's in the book, ma'am.

I still want to know if these are the same xianist "scriptures" in which Jesus, said to be said to be "the Christ"; is not said to have said a single word about homosexuality, but is, on the other hand, said to have said that there is no marriage in heaven?

Or are you using a different book?

I honestly wish you would address this.

The Gospel According to St John:
1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2. The same was in the beginning with God...snip

Prove it.

As a test of his faith and obedience. However, the Lord stayed his hand and Isaac was not harmed.
Only an evil god would ask a father to do that, and only a bad father would do it.

ETA: I was going to give more examples, like Lot's daughters, but then I read Judges 19 and had to go take a shower.

If 2 out of the 4 people God saves for not being sinners rape their father and God doesn't have a problem with it, then I don't think it's unfair to assume that God is all on board with the idea.

Well, it's not like they thought their dad was hot. They believed they were the last people on earth and they were saving the species.

And the Bible doesn't really get God involved in the story at all. It just kind of sets out that it happened and then moves on without comment.

I'm not saying God doesn't do and command some flinging-flanging crazy things. But I wouldn't blame God for Lot's daughters.

Who was it who said "the difference between me and your god is that if I see someone raping a child, I'll do everything in my power to stop it"?

Squeegee was referring to Noah's daughters. Lot's daughters were given to the unruly mob to be raped.

It was but a distractionary tactic, the daughters of Lot were protected by the Lord, as was Lot and his wife... until she regretted leaving her home, lost faith and looked back, after having been commanded to not do so. Sodom and Gomorrah, and all inhabitants were destroyed. Those who choose wickedness will be punished.
