All of Machiavelli's comparisons between Meredith and Amanda got me wondering, so I created this chart. I hope this is helpful. I'm working on a powerpoint.
1. Alcohol:
Meredith--Binge Drinker
Amanda--Normal
2. Drugs
Meredith--Pot Smoker
Amanda--Pot Smoker
3. Boyfriend
Meredith--Criminal (Pot grower)
Amanda--Harry Potter
4. Sex
Meredith--Anal
Amanda--Vibrator
5. Illegal Activity
Meredith--Conspiracy to grow marijuana
Amanda--Noise complaint
6. Grooming/Hygene
Meredith--Brazilian
Amanda--Skidder in Toilet
In other words: Meredith was a fairly typical student.
One thing that struck me as odd the other day was reading this article :
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...da-Knox-retrial-Meredith-Kercher-profile.html.
In the article, John Kercher Sr. is implied to have stated that Meredith was "not allowed" to defer her degree to study abroad. This struck me as odd as:
she would not have needed to defer her degree - the study abroad section is part of her degree.
Perugia is a listed destination Uni for Leeds, so it's not a choice of Uni that would have bothered her tutors.
Leeds sends hundred of language students abroad every year, so it's not a matter of going abroad that would have bothered them.
End of level 2/5, year 2, is where the Italian honours course lists the study abroad section. It's when you're expected to go.
You no longer need to find a counterpart student to do a 1-4-1 exchange with, so that can't have been the problem.
As it was her "life's dream" it's not reasonable to assume she applied too late.
It's not a matter of the course she chose, as several other exchange students appear to have picked the same course.
That leaves the only logical choices being:
John Kercher was confused or misremembering, or,
Meredith did not meet the academic standards to be allowed to go, which means her academic achievement was below the equivilant of a 3.33 GPA (2:1). UoP accepts people at the equivilant of a 3.0 GPA (2:2) but UoL (not LMU) requires equivilant to a 2:1 to allow you to go.
Whereas Knox, we now know, very definetly made the Deans List, which requires a solid 3.5+. Even the comparison of Kercher being the high achieving super student and Knox being the slovenly student barely scraping by does not bear up to further examination.
