I'm pretty sure I am a better Christian than this guy, and I am saying that as an atheist. To me this obsession with your own salvation in itself is selfish and unchristian.

It's not his own salvation that he's obsessed with, it's everybody else's. Chick tracts are evangelical tools.
 
I'm pretty sure I was shown Chick tracts in high school- which is pre 1973.
That's 40 years ago.
I got to thinking Jack must be getting pretty close to meeting his maker.

I hope he's remembered to take Jesus as his personal saviour!
 
My mom, a staunch atheist, treasured a copy of "This is Your Life". "Take my hand, Lord Jesus, I'm coming home!" became quite a catchphrase around our house.

I've often thought it would be fun to buy a bundle at the local Christian bookstore that stocks them, undo the staples, and do a careful partial revision before loosing them on the world. Just a few little changes :D
 
I love Jack Chick, they are so over the top. As a Christian, they don't represent any Christianity I'm familiar with. A friend used to collect them and I read a bunch one long night when we were practicing. I don't know where they get their theology but it is so black and white, it's like when Jesus talked about the Sabbath and the fact that people were honoring the letter of the law but not the spirit.
I don't think anyone takes them seriously or whether anyone became a Christian because of them.
Is there an actual Jack Chick?

That sounds like a guess. We have no way of knowing either way, huh? And, someone becoming Christian can have many causes, not just one, and one of those causes can be the Chick tracts. And, Chick tracts can have an effect by not just causing someone to become Christian, but by helping someone to *stay* Christian.

I received them when I trick or treated on Halloween, and I assure you that the person handing them out took them seriously.

This is a shameless case of pots and kettles. You just distilled a myriad of diverse beliefs, basically one for every believer, into a sad parody of your imagination. (Strawman) Lots of religious people will be quick to tell you all the religions are onto something. Don't dehumanize people like this. It is a bad thing to do.

Yes there are some people who tell you that all religions are correct. However you need to accept beliefs that contradict each other. For example

1. how many Gods are there?
2. Is the pope the final authority on religion?
3. Status of Jesus?
4. Justification of wars about religion, such as in Northern Ireland.

The list goes on.

Others will tell you that whatever the others may be "on to", only their own earns salvation. This is the traditional view, generally departed from only in very recent times, under the influence of secularisation. And it is still the view of many or most traditionalists, both Catholic and Protestant. But recent more humane ideas are very praiseworthy none the less.
