Under the blood moon, in a clearing in the Forest Of Fear, in the middle of the Ceremony Of Pain, after the sacrifice of the unicorns, while the fell wolf howled and the wurm Dryclor cried tears of blood the womb from the netherworld opened up and the spawn of demons was birthed into our world to bring sorrow, grief, misery and the lamentations for the times of old. His name was Steve Stockman.

Yes I figured if I was going to use hyperbole I might as well just go all out.

You all might know him better as that guy that once said "If babies had guns, they wouldn’t be aborted” which I'd call a bonehead thing to say but that would be insulting other boneheaded things people have said. Let's just say that if bonehead mutterings had guns they'd execute that jumble of words without mercy.

This is a man that denounced the Violence Against Women Act.

He claims that immigration reform is part of a plot to destroy America from within.

He thinks an impending treaty with the UN will lead to a world wide ban on guns.

He thinks Obama should be impeached for being in favor of new gun laws.

Oh and he has attended Birther conventions.

Why should we care about this guy?

Because the Tea Party has decided that Texas Senator John Cornyn is just too darned liberal for their liking and is supporting Steve Stockman in the primary for the upcoming election. And in Texas that likely means we can look forward to this man mucking up things in the Senate starting in 2015.

Yiiiikes

Obviously this character is not probably typical of the candidates that the Tea Party support or his views have been deliberately misrepresented or quoted out of context or even if they are accurate and he is a typical Tea party candidate he's only one man and doesn't represent the Tea Party or GOP.

Fringe beliefs exist in all societies but to an outside observer the GOP seems to be pandering rather too much to their fringe.

I haven't looked at Mr. Stockman yet but, generally speaking, it looks that way to an inside observer, as well.

Eta: The "Issues" sections of his website are mostly just placeholders with linked articles, but I can't fault the man on his support of NASA.

Whilst I like to hope that few Republicans believe in this level of extremism, it certainly does appear that that this level of extremism drives the party. Moderate Republicans may not believe in it, but they absolutely do appear to pander to it, pay lip service to it - and, increasingly, go along with it.

This is Texas. If this wing nut wins the primary, there's a good chance he wins the general election.

I think this is a move by the Rand Paul in '16 Committee. Rand's going to run on the "Hey, At Least I'm Not As Wacky As Steve Stockman" platform.

He's just trying to get some fund-raising action going and get his name in the papers. He hasn't got a hope in hell. He has no money, no real organization and no real ground-swell of voters really that upset with the incumbent. Plus the primary is in about fifteen weeks, isn't it?

@Upchurch.... he supports NASA because his District is in Houston. You don't get elected in Houston if you bad mouth NASA. (And let's put a stop to this rumor that he supports NASA because he wants to gather moonbeams in a jar.)

I read somewhere that Cornyn has a $7 million war chest and Stockman has essentially nothing.

He's running on indignation that Cornyn didn't back Ted Cruz 100% over the government shutdown.

It'll be interesting to see who Cruz backs.

Well, I know that those stupid, idotic, lying Tea Party people like Stockman, however the rest of the Republican Party (in a rare display of sanity) has made an effort not to support Stockman.

Therefore, I expect that stupid, idiotic, lying Stockman will go the way of the Dodo.

He's just like Ted Cruz, but without the Princeton Debate Medal.

Clubbed over the head by Spanish sailors? Works for me.

Oh, it gets better..

Officials in Webster, Texas last month ordered the emergency closure of Stockman's campaign headquarters, The Houston Chronicle reported at the time. Officials cited multiple safety violations, and the newspaper reported that campaign staffers and volunteers were working and sleeping in a commercial building that was considered unsafe for habitation.

The office had been located in a former motorcycle shop, which a friend of Stockman's allowed the campaign to use rent-free in 2012 and 2013. Inspectors found bunk beds in the building, according to the Chronicle, and Stockman himself bragged about the arrangement in an August 2012 profile in Human Events.

This guy is dirty all the way up and down.
Rep. Steve Stockman has failed repeatedly to disclose business affiliations that stretch from Texas to the British Virgin Islands on his Congressional financial disclosure forms, an investigation by the Houston Chronicle shows.

The Houston Chronicle’s latest investigation published Sunday reveals that Stockman, since his bankruptcy in 2002, created a number of businesses, some of which remain active but were not reported on Stockman’s financial disclosure form as required by federal law.
That form itself was filed nearly a year late—Stockman didn’t disclose his assets or business affiliations in 2012, as required by federal law. The form attributes $350,000 earned by Stockman in 2011 and 2012 to “Presidential Trust Marketing,” an unexplained entity with a name similar to one of Stockman’s assumed names in Harris County: Presidential Trust. It’s unknown whether Presidential Trust and Presidential Trust Marketing are the same company.

I'm glad to see some solidarity with Cornyn.

Stockman just seems so........yuck.

Darn.

And I camped out all week for these tickets.
