Is Obama dumbing down America?

From the Wikipedia article I linked to earlier...

You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International has been supported by Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann[29] and Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. Emmer's campaign gave the organization $250 in 2008, prompting criticism due to the group's views on homosexuality.[30][31][32] Bachmann has praised the organization, appearing as a keynote speaker at their fundraisers.[7][33][34] Dean has indicated that both Bachmann and Emmer will appear in his upcoming documentary My War.[35]

While I wouldn't call him mainstream, he's not without support. His thinking is reflected by fairly influential groups and elected officials. I see nothing especially wrong about discussion his views as long as they aren't misrepresented as typical, mainstream, or used to smear the GOP or right wing in total. There is plenty of reason to criticize the latter and I'm a little confused why people are focusing instead on the former.

Why be interested in politics at all!?! Why not just vote for the candidate with the funniest name!?!

I have an interest in what the opposition thinks. So I go looking for what they are talking about. Often I find things like this and...I just....must....share.
.
But, but, the fringers have no standing in the overall group they are on the outside of!
If someone sane espoused the hate from most of the fringers, then it would be worth looking at and debating but I have yet to see anything other "he's black, and therefore hast a devil" from the fringers.
I don't read most of that crap that I get from the 'net.
Their "minds" are made up, any rational discussion will be met with a blizzard of anti-whatevers, most too stupid for a normal person to even consider.
It's like there's a stupid phrase book passing around the h8rs to quote from.

I don't find the views quoted by the OP to be any less crazy than many comments that have come from mainstream GOP party members.

I think it serves the purpose of showing that the craziness runs from top to bottom in the party.
.
Yes, there is that!

If you flood the place with partisan boot-lickers posting the most asinine fringe lunatic rantings about their beloved, you hope to mis-direct attention away from legitimate criticism.

One of the sad results of this blind partisanship is that by insulating your Dear Leader from any constructive criticism, you make him ever more reckless and stupid instead of becoming something the country could ultimately look back upon with historic pride.

It is your own people that should be keeping you honest, keeping you sharp as a razor by facing pointed criticism, and making sure you do not drift into the arrogance of despotism.

I thought Bush was some kind of historic watermark for his war crimes and epic disgraceful stupidity. But I came to accept it was not Bush but rather the American people who were the problem.

Blind, stupid partisanship is a pox on this country.
.
I was disappointed that Bush and his gang weren't sent off to the Hague to be tried for their war crimes.
Obie missed that ball entirely.
That might qualified him for the Peace prize as a real effort towards peace.

Are these the same people who promote lack of education as a virtue when demonizing Democrats and supported Romney's judgment of Obama as a "snob" for making a statement during his campaign that everyone who wants one should have the ability to get a college education, and who want to abolish the Department of Education and its Pell Grants and loans, that are now accusing Obama of deliberately dumbing down the populace?

No.

Accusing Obama of dumbing down America is IMHO confusing cause and effect.

Obama is creating a generation of people that can't read or write.

Tahanks Obammma!

By Bradlee Dean

Interesting. So....the President that didn't lead American into a near great depression and at least one completely screwed up war is the biggest failure.

That is just so interesting. But is also just the setup for this:

And....Obama did this....how???? Did he conspire to create terrible economic conditions that would lead so many people to unemployment and then desperation?

So....the people that found themselves unemployed and unable to find new work.

Is Obama also responsible for his detractors not knowing which "their/there/they're" to use?

And....just how did Obama get all those young people to not learn how to read? Surely they started school when he was just a senator so....did this Obama conspiracy to create an illiterate population start back then? If so then how did the George W Bush administration not spot it and expose it?

In fact has the literacy rate changed much over the past couple of decades or is this all entirely in the imagination of Bradlee Dean?

Oh, so the conspiracy actually started when Reagan/George H.W. Bush were in charge!

We are through the looking glass people!

Outrage #368

With no offense to B.Dean, the republickers have done far more to destroy education (except for those who go private all the way - they leave them alone gladly!!!) in public schools than any group I can think of in the US.

First off - and the only one I will cover as it is the most important numerically - statistically all students in Public high schools cannot pass required courses (some or all) simply due to intellectual capability and/or inability to function properly in that setting UNLESS the grading is simplified /modified from a pure point total divided into total correct (currently required where I am for state law and county practice) OR other methods of testing are accepted for those students (they no longer are where I am). So, the students not willing or able to learn at the rate the school's system requires are waysided. Note: student's whose reading and/or math skills are at essentially 1st-3rd grade level (that is they, according to the specialists who passed all this onto us, CANNOT read and follow Science , Math or any other subject's reading material because they have never developed those skills - and they cannot pass the tests that require that to prepare for. Thus failures or teacher assisted cheating (which can get, and has, gotten teachers fired).

I heard that Obama did a bunch of drugs and shot some people and stole the Silmarils and had sex with a hooker and kicked a puppy and said a swear on live television! He's a bad man, and only by electing Jesus Christ as our personal president can we save America!!

I hate to break it to you, Checkmite, but 16.5 is right. It was Santorum, not Romney, who called Obama a snob for wanting everyone to be able to go to college.

At least, I'm assuming that's what 16.5 must have been referring to when he said "no", since everything else you said was entirely correct.

This thread is more evidence that conservatives are embarrassed when someone actually voices the conservative positions.

Bradlee Dean is just trying to shill for some $$$. He still owes Rachel Maddow to the tune of $25,000 for choosing Larry Klayman (recognise the name? ;) ) as his attorney.

You seem to spend an inordinate amount of time focussing on the oddballs and fringe dwellers. If you really want to understand and take an interest in the opposition, why not try and argue against Milton Friedman for example?

You did make me LOL (and prove you're a good sport) with "outrage #368".

I don't recall many people quoting Friedman at Tea Party rallies.

In case anyone is really curious my mom has gone full Tea Party in her old age and through her I find myself being introduced to a lot of all this.

But in what way does this kook represent what the opposition thinks?

The Lee Bright thread was appropriate because he actually wants to run for national office.

Furthermore, you found this guy's quotes on WND. Really?! Why the **** would anything published in WND be worthy of discussion in the JREF politics subforum?

...............

If you want to discuss U.S. politics, then start as many threads as you like.

If you want to merely provide your comments on the fringey-est of the right-wing fringe, then perhaps a blog might be a better medium for you.

............
please note, the question marks were not rhetorical.

These people are not the fringe. These people are the new Republican base. These people are the ones that choose candidates in the primary. So it is essential to know what they think.

Calling them "fringe" and thinking they don't have influence is to make a dangerous mistake.

Wait....what? I'd like to know more about that story.

Bradlee Dean sued MSNBC, Rachel Maddow, the Minnesota Independent, and journalist Andy Birkey on defamation grounds, after they reported on some of his outrageous statements, such as

"Muslims are calling for the execution of homosexuals in America. They themselves are holding up the laws that are even in the Bible, the Judeo-Christian God but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians..."
"Foreign enemies rising up because Christians are not doing enough to kill the gays..."

The case was thrown out on Anti-SLAPP issues, and Bradlee Dean had to pay the defendants' legal fees.
