Merged Sylvia Browne passed away this morning

For good or bad, she had fame, and gave the world something to talk about.

I think the trhead title should read:

"Someone whose name begins with C, or possibly S... One or the other... Has passed away yester... the day before yes... er, at sometime in the past."

I'm not glad she's dead (that would be totally callous) but I am glad that her lies, fraud and despicable greed and lust for money and power has stopped. Sadly there will be other shills and rubes to con the vulnerable out of money.

Well I just had a horrible little chuckle to myself...
It's a pity her family or staff didn't do everything possible to keep her "alive" for another Eleven years. I mean, what would it cost just to keep someone on life support for that long with only one goal? Keeping her alive until her own prophesied death date so she could have at least ONE correct prediction on her record. "Okay, here it comes." Looks at watch again, "That's it. Go ahead a pull the plug." A moment later, the classic long single tone is heard. "Unbelievable, she died the exact moment she said she would. Clearly, Ms. Brown was the real deal." And the money train keeps on a rollin'.
Opportunity missed I guess. :o

Slightly off topic, but...
There's two movies, one called "Moon Over Parador" where the dictator dies and is replaced by an actor and "Dave", where the president is replaced by just a normal guy. They acted in the dead head of state's place until the big reveal.

They probably had enough money to hire someone to portray her for the next 11 years, right?

Michael Gambon?

My natural response to her death was to go to her Facebook page and notice the abundance of fans who are now in mourning.

If you ever wanted to sell that Oklahoma property with the ocean view or start your own Nigerian email money transfer business and want a list of people to contact, you'll find no shortage of willing participants on Browne's FB page.

I am recieving a message from the beyond.

I see someone dying with an S in their name. Or it could of been a B. I think they were in a wheelchair. All I know is they wanted to forgive a bald headed man with a beard. Everything is fine on the other side and it's always 78 degrees.

:)

I don't know why CNN should be aware of it.

"Anyway, you are far too kind. Sylvia Browne has lied to and cheated people for decades and has badly hurt suffering people with her lies. She deserves nothing but ridicule and scorn and the fact that she may be dead doesn't change that one bit."

What she deserves was not my point.

What her family - including her young grandchildren - deserves, and what is just decent behavior, was my point.

Looks like you were right. The world is a better place today, if only slightly.

Well, I would certainly agree that any negative comments to her family would be in horrible taste, but commenting on a skeptic's internet forum? Sorry, but she's completely fair game.

I disagree, and I think I have as much, if not more cause to dislike her (Her hiring a PI to tail me, hiring an attorney to send me a - admittedly, weak - letter in an attempt to get me to shut my site down, having Susan and me tossed out of the Excalibur for no good reason) as anyone here. When Randi dies, what would we think of nasty comments about him then posted on "woo" forums?

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!
Yes, let the joyous news be spread The wicked Old Witch at last is dead!

Dammit,ya beat me to it!

People say nasty things about Randi now, and it has no effect on what I personally think of him. That won't change when he dies. If SB's fans celebrate his death, then it will just reconfirm for me that his life's work has been worthwhile. Having SB's fans disparage Randi before or after his death would hurt my feelings only if I had any regard for their opinions, and what's more I will welcome anything they have to say that is truthful.

@ JokerFace: Welcome to the forum! Seeing a new face in light of this tragedy makes me feel her passing has had some positive effect. It's nice that good things can come of such horrible, terrible, unfortunate, and tragically unforeseen circumstances.

Pull up a chair and join me in a toast, why don't you?

ETA: oops, don't forget the smilie :D

I received an email today from a member of Browne's family stating that she passed away this morning at 5am. I would think that it was related to her recent strokes, but do not know that for a fact.

I would discourage one and all from any snarky comments. Whatever else may be said of her, she is survived by family members who I think deserve to mourn her passing without hearing of snarky comments about her passing.

If you can't speak ill of the dead, who can you speak ill of? Browne was an opportunistic con artist who preyed on the grieving and the gullible. Good riddance. The world is a (slightly) better place without her. The fact that there are people still alive who are unfortunately related to her is irrelevant. Most likely the only mourning going on is for the passing of the gravy train.
