Did Ted Cruz praise a racist?

Another dog whistle from Cruz.

Just ambiguous enough to be deniable, but clear enough to see the racial overtone.

The Nigerian ambassador to the United States demanded Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) apologize for a joke he cracked that “Nigerian email scammers” built HealthCare.gov, Politico reported Thursday.

Pot - Kettle (as in Why has the Nigerian gov't not shut all those feces eaters down? It's not like they are real intelligent.). Ah well, republikkkers - can't live with 'em, can't live with 'em.

As much as I loathe GOP racial politics, this one looks really weak. Nigerian email scams are a pretty well-known thing, and have been for years. It's not something dreamed up while Obama was in office, and there's no real racial animosity behind it.

Now, had he said "Kenyan email scammers", I'd be with you.

ETA: To put it in perspective, Jesse Helms openly supported Jim Crow, and blocked funding for AIDS research, believing that gay men deserved it. That is what Cruz supported as a child, and he's proud of it. There's no need to look for dog-whistles when the guy's wearing a beacon hat and holding a megaphone that's blaring "Whistling Dixie".

The question, I guess, would by why use the 419 scams as a comparison?

Because they're African. Like you-know-who. Like I said, it's just ambiguous enough to be deniable, but the dig is clear enough. A politician appealing to racism is not going to be super obvious about it by, for example, yelling the N-word or wearing a white sheet and hood. He's just going to give hints and winks, which those who are intended to hear can hear loud and clear, but are also ambiguous enough to be deniable.
