The state of FL v. George Zimmerman

15 minute recess ... I am not sure why we have recess in the middle of closing. Jurors have only been in courtroom since ~ 1:00

Finished with trial and half way through closing argument. The state has yet to assert a cogent theory of Zimmerman's guilt.

WFTV Live Blog Poll: How do you think the state's closing is going so far?
Very Well - 5%
Okay - 9%
Not to well - 13%
Very poorly - 71%
No opinion - 1%

Bill Sheaffer from WFTV all over BDLRs poor performance, as he characterizes it.

BDLR is doing the best with what he's got. At times, he is getting angry when discussing GZ's truthfulness.

BDLR is making a lot of emotional appeals to the jury. I think that's all he has to draw from.

BDLR starts second half quickly asserting cogent facts, then falls right back into reasonable doubt. To my layperson mind, shorter would have been better for this fact set.

Sorry if this has already been addressed.

1. Is there a time limit on final arguments and a time by which they have to end?

2. If it goes to deliberations by end of tomorrow will the jury work over the weekend?

1. They told the judge how long they planned to yesterday. (wow, was it just yesterday ?)

BDLR, 2 hours. MOM 3 hours, Guy 1 hour rebuttal

2. It should go to the jury tomorrow. Not determined AFAIK if they work over the weekend, probably up to the jurors.

But what makes you think it will take them that long ? ;)

I thought about that and it's an interesting question. I think the jury knows how big this is and is probably going to be loathe to have anyone claim they are "just a bunch of racists that voted not guilty in 45 minutes". Of course that's going to happen no matter what, but I think they might feel it necessary to spend at least 8 hours, give or take ;). I also think the manslaughter charge might be harder to come to a conclusion on quickly.

Prosecutor pointing out lie after lie GZ was caught in. In the walk through, GZ says TM turned down Twin Tree Lane, then a minute later says he didn't know the street name.

This trial is going pretty fast, and judging from how long the defense tried their case, I'd imagine they want to get this case to the jury ASAP. MOM and West probably won't use all of their 3 hours.

I don't see why the state wouldn't allow the jurors to deliberate over the weekend, but I don't see the deliberations go much further than Friday night.

I'm pretty sure the state has no say whatsoever in how long the jury takes to deliberate.

Isn't that the order knowledge often works in, first you don't know something, and then you learn it? Why would that be a lie?

Or is this just another "I insist he's lying because I think he knew it I refuse to believe he didn't" issue?
