Well I checked, but there doesn't seem to be any blackjack or hookers at their conference. I guess that problem comes down to it being a thing that is only on the internet.
I wonder how well it'll do?
There's not much info, yet. I see some logistical questions popping up.
> Do they intend to charge for this? Zero attendees from A+ unless they allow you to mail in a sack of coins from under the couch cushions. None of the warriors at A+ would put an actual name to a registration form.
> Are they going to offer it for free in order to hype the attendance? "Wow! We had more attendees (read: people who clicked the page) in three days than at any TAM, evah! We rule!"
I see this as the upshot of having made themselves persona non grata at any conference of note. After their most recent huff 'n flounce, the conversation at the FTB tree fort must've been along the lines of one of those old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland musicals,
"So, what're we gonna do for free vacations and stuff, kids? We've pulled out of every conference with a budget for speakers."
"Say, gang! We could put on our own conference!"
"Tommy! We're not like those guys. We couldn't pull of a big fancy conference."
"Sure we could, Biff! Jennie's mom has a webcam, doesn't she? And Larry's got an old directional microphone. Bipsy can do the lights - she used to work in Radio Shack!"
"Yeah, that's right! And the girls could sew up some nice banners and make virtual lemonade we could sell for virtual money!"
"Yeah, let's do it!"
My alternate Hollywood meme is probably a little more accurate. Peezers Pots 'n Pans Myers is going to take on the five families of Skepticism and take 'em down. They realized that conferences must be making money because they can afford to fly in their sorry butts, pay their honorariums and put 'em up for four days. So, they want a piece of the action. Just enough to wet their beaks. "If we can't get jobs at their conferences then we'll start OUR conference. Everyt'ing left of Susan Sontag belongs to the Minnesota Family from now on. If dey don' go for it? We go to the mattresses!"
This is the first shot. If they get enough interest/commentary, look for a meatspace conference the following year.
