If this were true, then why is the defense trying to preclude ANY experts from testifying? If they had an expert in their pocket or if the state's witness helped them, why are they in panic mode?
Have you considered the possibility that the defense is actually being ethical, and legitimately believes this science isn't up to the task of comparing a scream to speech?
They do have voices, since they invited George to replicate his own screams. It's not the state's fault that his wimpy yelps sound nothing like the screams heard on tape, is it?
The police instructed him on what to do, and unfortunately their instructions were very poor. Nonetheless, in this video from Ed Primeau (whom I think is a joke, and whose "In my mind's eye" nonsense is firmly in woo territory) demonstrates clearly that the screams were from Zimmerman, using those flawed police exemplars.
Primeau's methodology of just "listening" and using the bogus early media narrative as his "mind's eye" starting point, are clearly wildly flawed and subject to human error, but none of that is used in this video he uploaded very recently. In this video he merely combines the exemplars and the screams into one file, alternating between the two. In that, his methodology is generic and not disputable.
And again, in this video it is
completely clear that the screams are from Zimmerman. I defy anyone to dispute that, and I'll go so far as to say the only basis for disputing that which I can imagine anyone having is simply an emotional clinging to a fact-deficient early narrative, and personal pride.
Here's the video
If anything related to voice experts comes in at trial, I think Primeau should be compelled to play this same audio.
ETA: Just to clarify, in case anyone is confused about what exactly I'm saying re: voice analysis... in case it sounds like I'm having it both ways, saying the science isn't up to the comparison on one hand, and saying this audio makes it clear that it's Zimmerman on the other, let me attempt to explain what I mean.
I'm saying that, whatever abilities voice recognition and comparison may have under more normal circumstances, comparing two speech samples to one another (and I can't speak to it's abilities in that regard but I suspect they are much more firmly established) I do not think that the various pieces of software which attempt to make some sort of automated comparison were applicable due to the unique situation here, comparing a scream to speech.
Even more importantly, I do not think woo methodology like "mind's eye" and "this shall be" from people like Primeau and Reich are valid, at all. I think that human error and confirmation bias are HUGE problems when you get into methodology like that. I think coming to a conclusion that it's not Zimmerman when doing a sort of comparison you've never attempted before, with what appears to be fairly untested software which was released within days of those findings, all in the absence of having a sample from Trayvon... as Tom Owen did, is wildly unethical and irresponsible and unprofessional.
I believe considerations like increasing personal notoriety and selling more software, and just getting on TV and raising the profile of a small, fairly unknown science, was a huge corrupting factor in a lot of these findings. The proper thing for most of these "experts" to say was "I'm sorry, comparison of a scream to speech is simply not within the scope of what I can do, particularly in the absence of a sample from the other party present that night."
I believe the extremely tainted narrative present in the media at that time impacted those findings of Tom Owen, Ed Primeau, etc... just like it impacted people like Mary Cutcher, John, and the "larger person" witness. These gentlemen are only human, and I don't for a second believe they would have ever released the same findings if the injury photos of Zimmerman had been available at that time.
As for what I'm saying about this audio being clear, does that seem at odds with what I just said about the deficiencies of this science? I'm sure it does, but the key difference is that we have a lot more information (injuries, Trayvon's size, what his father said to police, what his brother said in an interview, what neighbors said, etc...) and this is the first time I've seen the exemplar paired with the screams in this way. The totality of all evidence and information in this case which is available now, combined with this new assembly of the audio... I believe leaves no doubt about who was screaming.
Personally, though, I don't believe there has been doubt about that in any reasonable mind since the injury photos of Zimmerman were released.
