Biblical Flood? Fish, squid, and shrimp fossils in the mountains of Lebanon and Peru

You just reported your source that says the bible contains made up stories that aren't true.

What is your point?

I can but reiterate your question.

As a long-term fan of 'these' threads I don't normally have too much trouble translating the OPs into English and then proceeding as though the author actually had something to say.

So far, however, all I'm getting from this thread is:

2.5 billion years ago there was a lot of water about, therefore the biblical flood of 6 thousand years ago is a true story.

What the hell am I misssing?

This is what Jesus said about Noah.

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

I believe what Jesus said.

Do you have a contemporary record of him saying that?

Hi, mate.

There's something vewwy scwewwy going on here, and I'd hate for it to cause any misunderstanding between us, especially since we agree so closely with each other.

For some reason that I'm at a loss to fathom, the post you keep referring (and indeed linking) to as #361 is, as far as my version of the forum is concerned, post #358, whereas #361 was authored by Agatha.

My apologies for any confusion this may have caused. I have no idea how to explain this anomoly.

Mighty One (may you post forever!): How ya been since?

This link
http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showpost.php...&postcount=361
takes me to the post to which I thought I was referring, to wit:

"Which is why I have asked you to explain when, in your opinion, Pangea was last a continent; when, in your opinion, the "global flood" took place; and when, in your opinion, the civilizations of Eastern Asia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and MesoAmerica (to name but a few) arose.

For that matter, when, in your opinion was either one of the contradictory creations myths supposed to have taken place?"

...do the numbers change when posts get AAH-ed?

At any rate, enough of us have asked enough times, and enough different ways, for DOC to commit to a chronology that it really does not matter who he answers, if he would just answer one of them.

I will wager the title to my tapir-pulled MesoAmerican chariot that we will not be seeing a substantive answer.

The post number shown when viewing a single post is encoded in the URL. Not sure how it got to be wrong; possibly if the URL was saved, and then 3 posts were sent to AAH, that would do it. If you go to the post in the thread, you'll see it is actually 358. http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9176448#post9176448 (I think it's best to link like that anyway, because you can see the post in context.)

Thank you, "Zooterator"!

Any idea how to engender a responsive response form DOC?

As the whole point of the flood was to exterminate all but the family Noah, how on earth could a local flood manage to do this?

Thanks.

That's the problem with assuming the facts of the story have some bearing on reality. If, however, you view the purpose of the story to be the moral of the story, even a much more minor event can be sufficient. The Bible wipes out a few cities to get across the message "Don't disobey God". The real question is, why go to such catestrophic lengths here? What's the point of wiping out the world, when obviousl smaller events clearly have the same (roughly) impact?

I believe God Created the universe, and Jesus Christ is part of the Holy Trinity.

This is what Jesus said about Noah.

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

I believe what Jesus said.

What about the rest of the question?

WHEN was the Earth created?
WHEN did humans first appear?
WHEN did the flood occur?
HOW BIG was the flood?

In other words: What, specifically, are you arguing for?
A lot of us are getting fed up with your "no-claimer" approach.

IMO, as stated earlier, the flood event, as written in the OT was world wide from their perspective, when you consider what their world consisted of at the time, the eastern end of the Mediterranean as far as Cappadocia (eastern Turkey).

They had no concept of the "global" world as we understand it.

You're welcome, but no inside knowledge was needed for that, just something I'd noticed well before my transition to the other side.
You have to be dead to be a moderator? That explains the smell.... ;)

DOC, when do you think the Biblical flood happened? Do you believe it was a local or a global event?

As a couple of side questions, do you understand that mitochondrial Eve and Y-chromosomal Adam are titles, not actual people, and the current holders of those titles almost certainly did not live at the same time or ever met? There is no relationship with the Biblical Adam and Eve other than the names the scientists chose in order to make the concept accessible to people who had little understanding of this particular field of science.

Do you understand that the people who hold those titles at the moment will not always hold those titles as lineages die out, or further advances are made in understanding of genetics? For reference, the current holders of those titles are a woman who lived around 190,000 to 200,000 years ago for mE, and YcA being a male who lived somewhere between 271,000 and 581,000 years ago, and was not a modern human.

You really do think that a quotation of the words of a character in the very fairytale...
Jesus wasn't a fairytale. He was a famous historical person if we are to believe Bart Ehrman who said Jesus certainly existed. And he was a famous historical person whose grave is empty and whose body has never been found.

Famous due to relentless marketing over the centuries. At the time he was just another street preacher with an eye for the boys.

Jesus, like Santa Claus, is a fairy tale.
Just because they may be based upon real people doesn't make their stories any less of fanciful of tales.

All these things you speak of here are uncorroborated hearsay. Or fairytales if you will.
