Biblical Flood? Fish, squid, and shrimp fossils in the mountains of Lebanon and Peru

DOC, what do you believe? When was the Earth created? When did humans appear? Did the flood really happen? If so, when? Was it global or local?

I believe God Created the universe, and Jesus Christ is part of the Holy Trinity.

This is what Jesus said about Noah.

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

I believe what Jesus said.

I care because it's a symptom of their retreat from reality.

I don't see non-falsifiable beliefs in that way. And again, I can't see why you should care. It is possible to be a theist and accept our best scientific understandings of the world. To believe in a global flood you have to be wilfully ignorant.

You started this thread about the Biblical flood. What's the problem, Doc? Don't have the courage of conviction in this aspect of your Biblical literalism? Understandable given what an obvious load of hooey it is.

Hey, fundamentalist scammers still preach the Earth is at the center of the universe?

Yes?
No?
Why?
How this can be related to YEC scam?

What about the part of the Bible where God stops the sun in the middle of the sky...

God stopped the Earth's rotation?
Or it stopped the Sun from spinning around the Earth?

None of the above?
Why?
How this can be related to YEC scam?

How is this:

The below excerpt from a scientist is just 3 weeks old and contains the very latest science:

When Did Mitochondrial Eve and Y Chromosomal Adam Live?
April 4, 2013
By Dr. Fazale Rana

"...There is no real reason to think that the dates for mitochondrial Eve and Y chromosomal Adam conflict with the biblical account of human origins. In effect, Scripture is silent about when God created Adam and Eve—just as it’s silent about when God created the earth. Though some people are tempted to use the genealogies in Genesis 5 and 11 to calculate the time of Adam and Eve’s creation (usually resulting in a date about 6,000 years ago), the best scholarship rejects this approach.

Many biblical scholars point out that these genealogies are theological constructs. The author never intended them to be used to calculate or estimate the date for human origins. Instead, these lists are communicating key theological points, highlighting patriarchs of importance in the lineage of Adam to Noah and Noah to Abraham, respectively..."

He goes on to say at the end of the article: "The scientific and biblical stories of human origins harmonize quite well."

...a "response" to this:

Which is why I have asked you to explain when, in your opinion, Pangea was last a continent; when, in your opinion, the "global flood" took place; and when, in your opinion, the civilizations of Eastern Asia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and MesoAmerica (to name but a few) arose.

For that matter, when, in your opinion was either one of the contradictory creations myths supposed to have taken place?

I am interested in your opinion, because you seem to be trying to argue several contradictory things at once. I anticipate your response.

I believe God Created the universe, and Jesus Christ is part of the Holy Trinity.

Since Zooterkin's question was:

DOC, what do you believe? When was the Earth created? When did humans appear? Did the flood really happen? If so, when? Was it global or local?

...your answer is unresponsive. Isn't that what you call a "red flag"?

Why not just answer the question? Or my post #361?

The article also makes the error of assuming that mEve and YcA need to have lived at the same time...

Can you give the sentence where this is said, I don't remember reading that?

The point at which the deficiencies of your memory manifest themselves is hardly a reasonable reference marker in terms of the ongoing discussion.

Let's instead cut to the chase.

Do you believe that mEve and YcA were specific individuals who lived in the same place at the same time?

For the record, not all Christian apologists believe the flood was global, some believe it was local. Dr. Hugh Ross believes it was a local flood.

For the record, the sum total of what all christian apologists believe about the flood is worth is exactly the same as the amount of snap-frozen cocky cack that Noah delivered to the Araratians when he landed.

Your opinion is noted but when I read the article I don't see him completely misunderstanding anything.

It really is comical, DOC, after watching all these years of your arguments staggering from one abject failure to the next (or in many cases, rushing headlong on the same futile course), that you would attempt a defence of the indefensible based on nothing more than what you yourself can or cannot see.

Are you really so oblivious of having trashed your personal credibility here many years and many thousands of posts ago?

...snip...
I believe what Jesus said.
Why?
Why you believe Jesus said that?
How can you be sure that the many edits and translations suffered by the Bible kept Jesus' words accurate?
How can you be sure whoever initially wrote the NT accurately managed to transcribe Jesus' words?

How can yo be sure they didn't cut "LOL, guys, how can you believe in all this crap?" from Jesus' speeches?

I thought the Tr-J event wiped out mostly non-dinosaurian archosaurs, thereby enabling the dinosaurs to fill the vacated ecological niches it created.

In large part, yes. The crocodilians were one of the groups that got hit particularly hard, which always disapointed me. But my point was just that the common misconception about the Mesozoic Era is so bad that it misses something as enormous as a mass extinction.

DOC said:
I believe what Jesus said.
Technically, no. You believe that the authors and editors of the Bible said Jesus said.

One interesting thing about the mammalian lineage is that one of the more famous "dinosaurs" in our brightly colored bag of plastic ones - Dimetrodon - isn't a dinosaur and actually is more closely related to us than dinosaurs.
Fast food companies that use dinosaurs as their free toys HATE paleontologists. :D "This isn't a dinosaur, it's a mammal-like reptile! And this! It's not even that--it's a bloody pterosaur, a completely different line of archeosauria!!! And a MAMMOTH? SERIOUSLY?!!"

No, that wasn't me. Yes, that person was asked to leave. :D

I have no idea what this ongoing nonsense is all about, but I suspect it to be the result of a typo.

Agatha's post #361 didn't require a reponse - it was a simple statement of fact.

I do, of course. note that you nevertheless snipped a sentence fragment out of that post to use as a vehicle from which to launch yet more of your preachy, self-serving bilge, but in terms of a continuation of the discussion it's but one more eddy in an ocean of nulls.

Best we forget about it, I reckon, and proceed directly to your answers to this post instead:

Your intimation that Pangea was one continent as recently as 6K years ago seems to indicate otherwise.

Suppose you lay out a chronology:

In your opinion, when did 'god' create the world?

In your opinion, when was Pangea last a single continent?

In your opinion, when did the "global flood" happen?

In your opinion, when did the orogeny of the Himalayas happen?

Please to put those 4 events in the order you want to be able to claim that they happened, with the dates you want to wish for them.

As it happens, I can't seem to find your answer to that post. Do you have a link to it?

The primitive beliefs of the followers of bronze age polytheism are irrelevent in this venue.

Where do you think you are, reedcutter?

You really do think that a quotation of the words of a character in the very fairytale for which you're hoping to establish historical truth will serve, in fact, as evidence for the veracity of the fairytale itself, don't you?

There really is no better way to point out how ludicrous this approach is to a rational discussion other than to refer you back to the many, many thousands of posts that you have apparently ignored altogether in order to arrive at this point.
