Continuation: Discussion of the George Zimmerman case

As to the "NW Captain" crap, when you are not recognised by the NW governing body, you can imagine that you are, but in fact you aren't.

This "NW governing body" you speak of, which of these is their logo?

gxyS8Ll.png

There is a national, private organization which uses the orange signage and charges people exorbitant fees to use their logo... and then there are locally organized (through their local police departments) organizations which use the blue sign. Remember the pictures showing that that blue sign was outside RATL? That's the type GZ was in.

Then there are also NW groups which are just citizen run, citizen-organized, and in no way connected to the national private organization, or any police department.

All three are entirely legal, and speaking of a "NW governing body" is silly and betrays a lack of understanding of the truth of the situation. The fact that SPD and RATL referred to George as a "NW Captain" is more than sufficient to establish him as such and justify someone referring to him as such.

You've put forth the 'brutal beating' argument too, just like your fellow supporters. That's why that pic upsets you so much. And every time you post up some repeated babble about George's beating, I will post up the pic you hate.

Of course not. Did I claim that somewhere ? *looks around*

Just wondering why we should care about your opinion on how the legal proceedings will go if you're not, and you have done nothing but make a assertion with no argument to back it up.

You have to be kidding. This whole thread is almost completely assertion and opinion. We'll see whose turn out to have more credence as the trial proceeds.

Unless you are trying to tell me that your opinions are truth and nothing but? Is this your position?

This is an area you might yourself like to review the actual details.

NO, he was not on the high school football team.

Trayvon played for the Optimist Club at 14. Not High school .

So people know who the Optimists are:

Welcome to Optimist International
Optimist Mission: By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in kids.

Optimist International is an association of more than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids." Adult volunteers join Optimist Clubs to conduct positive service projects in their communities aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. With their upbeat attitude, Optimist Club members help empower young people to be the best that they can be.

It's a volunteer/charity organizational.

And he stopped playing at 14, but did help his dad, who was a coach there for some seven years.

He and his father, a truck driver, were active in the Miramar Optimist Club, an organization that runs sports and academic programs for young people. Tracy Martin, the teen's father, coached his son's football team.
The boy was a swift athlete, according to a friend, and played a range of positions up to about age 14.

After he stopped playing, he remained active in the organization, volunteering six days a week from June through November of last year to help run the team's concession stand.

Martin cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken wings alongside his father at the stand. He loved talking to the kids, asking them what position they played and whether they were good, Horton recalled.

He would call the mothers 'Ma'am,' and if they had a stroller or an item they needed help with, Martin stepped in. 'Everyone out there loved him,' Horton said.

This, from the club itself, details Tracy's involvement in the volunteer club:
Trayvon Martin is our son. We saw and will always see him as such. He was a pleasant young man that we will always hold in the highest regard. In my eight years at Miramar Optimist, not once did I see him looking displeased or angry in any capacity. The kid addressed all adults as maam or sir.

When his optimist [youth football] days were done, he came back as a volunteer and was still a regular at Forzano Park. Last year, he helped his dad to manage the concession stands for our home games. Trayvon was there every Saturday (8 am to around 9 pm) from July to November. He never complained.

He was passionate about family and friends.

His father Tracy Martin is a fixture at Miramar. He and Jerome Horton, who is also a park administrator share a bond unlike any other.

Tracy was a coach at Miramar Optimist for about seven years. He and Jerome even won a Super Bowl together as 80-pound coaches six years ago. All other coaches, parents, kids hold him in the highest regard. As a dad and coach myself, I've always admired how he interacted with his son. He was a disciplinarian, but very flexible with how he handled our youth.

well that's great. what was your point, since I did not claim he was on his high school football team? the underlying issue is that he would have had the speed and agility to easily evade George Zimmerman. I didn't see you refute that so...

and I am sure you will find something rude about this reply. I didn't cause thread to be moderated before so please don't place this unwarranted frustration upon me. I give back what I get and the quality of replies I was getting were not consistent with the high standards you allude to.

not a surprise to be immediately dressed down in a condescending way... by someone with an opposing view. LOL.

I'll let the readers decide what you meant by this.

Trayvon Martin had been either a running back or an end on his football team, judging by the number on his jersey. In an inner city school the competition for a slot on a football team is intense. He would have been in the top couple of percentile in speed among his peers.

Still waiting for Elvis to answer that.

ETA

Who said this?

Lots of posters here have, not necessarily in this forum. But we can let katieG disavow that belief here, and then I'll retract that bit.

She already admitted she thinks GZ shot TM execution style after he stood up.

Why do you think chasing around with a gun is a stretch ?

Trayvon Martin had been either a running back or an end on his football team, judging by the number on his jersey. In an inner city school the competition for a slot on a football team is intense. He would have been in the top couple of percentile in speed among his peers.

If batvette used the picture of Trayvon in the jersey to deduce what position he played, it's pretty obvious he's referring to the team he was on when he wore that jersey, when he says "his football team" no?

Now, may batvette have been confused about who that team was organized through (school vs. another organization)? Sure, that seems to be the case.

But I think his comments stand, his point was that Trayvon had a recent (playing at 14 when you just turned 17 is not exactly like "Yea I played in high school" said by a 50 year old) background in football, in a position which indicated proficiency in running... and that this is relevant in considering the physical dynamics between he and GZ that night.

Which it is.

Now, if there were some reason to think Trayvon had LOST that skill, and let himself go completely in those couple of years... then we'd be having a discussion. As it stands? He still looked to be in perfectly good shape for running.

I didn't address your post because you're making an irrelevant argument.

How about like a small detour from our current discussion, a sort of (un)professional courtesy then?

We'll call this totally irrelevant to the current discussion (as defined and compartmentalized by you) if you wish.

Here it is again, tell me if you interpret this in a manner similar to myself:

If you've used logical analysis, like I have in the above post, to help reinforce your view of the evidence and this case, and would like me to evaluate it, in an effort to see where you are coming from, I'd be happy to return the favor.

Uh, no. Instead, how about you offer up a post where katie (or anyone else) said that George followed Trayvon with gun in hand.

Hurry; we'll wait.

She already admitted she thinks GZ shot TM execution style after he stood up.

And?

Why do you think chasing around with a gun is a stretch ?

Here's what I think happened.

Read for comprehension much?

I'm LOL'ing at the title he had, not the existence of a NW program. But nice try.

Captain is simply the title given to the person tasked with organizing the watch, being the liason to the local PD, scheduling, etc.

If you prefer "HNIC", or "Grand Poobah", or whatever, this is your prerogative.

George did assume the role of this position, and all reporting indicates that the homeowners association requested him to do so.

I'll be the first to admit he seemed like a busybody, even a wannabe cop, you know like those minimum wage security guard guys who live in their parent's garage and drive an old 4 door dodge dart with a chrome spotlight, usually listen to a police scanner a lot...

At the time that was a good thing for his neighborhood and actually makes him the kind of guy who would have followed the law to the letter on this.

Did you see some of the other gems from that diatribe?

I liked the wiki link to the Peruvians in the Olympics...

None, not in over 100 years. In fact I believe the only medals in the summer games they ever won was one in volleyball and three in shooting.

Amazing isn't it. Trayvon Martin could have run circles around George Zimmerman. And probably beaten him to a pulp in seconds.

...
.
Please spare us the "unarmed teen" stuff.
