What a dreadfully sad way to go through life. :(

Yes. This, I think, more than anything else.

Or perhaps, not so much the sadness of any individual choosing this course, but the tragedy of their willingness, nay, their fervour, to inflict (and if only they could get away with it, enforce) this mindset on others.

Our Heavenly Father Eloheim also chose, as did we and Jesus Christ, to progress through a mortal trial in subjection to His Father.

What do you mean 'we', Kemosabe?

Very good question, Tonto.

I find it highly offensive that pretty much all of the many and varied superstitious fools that one encounters all presume to speak for the majority whilst conveniently ignoring that they've all of them become so sectarian that they rarely, if ever, speak for anyone but themselves.

...and that, if that, with such a splintered voice as to be no more than rampant solipsism?

Indeed.

If it wasn't for the priest class using whatever means are available to them to try and hold the whole thing together for their own advantage we'd be living in a world of some 5 billion different religions.

None of which, thank Isis, would even remotely resemble the bizarre fantasy of the LDS.

dafydd, Disease was introduced to our world through choices made by mortals since the days of Adam and Eve. Many suffer in mortality from the consequences of choices made by others.
There are many causes of cancer... pesticides, chemicals, foods cooked in oils at high temperatures, Aspartame, High Glucose Corn Syrup, second hand smoke from smokers, drugs, pollutions etc etc etc...

If this were true it would make your god a petty, vicious, vindictive monster whose been throwing a very long temper tantrum and is seemingly unable or not willing to get over it.

I wonder how a parent of a child going through chemo would react if I told them that if only certain people hadn't made the "loving" god so mad their kid would be running around with the other children and not sleeping 20 hours of the day due to taking morphine to curb their constant pain.

Ah, but now Janadele gets to play the martyr to herself, which I think was the motivation all along. "Look what I put myself through for my Church."

The irony, of course, is that her church probably couldn't care less, and she's made the LDS religion look extremely bad. That irony, I'm sure, is completely lost on her.

Janadele -

You have been duped. You have been had. The LDS Church beliefs are NOT REAL.

There is no god. There is no prophet.

The only thing the church, and all churches, absolutely loves is profit.

I'm sure you've nailed it, old friend.

Do you remember when you first realised that irony and sarcasm are totally meaninless to small children and how you were able to use that emergent understanding as a measure of your own kids' developing ability to master the complexities of thought and language?

Janadele,
You have recited the following or its equivalent multiple times in this thread:

For a short time, and for His own reasons, the Lord withheld the responsibility of His Priesthood from worthy males of Negro descent. They were always allowed the privilege of baptism, and of membership, through which they received the blessings of the Priesthood, without the responsibility... as is the situation also for women.

Do you still stand by these remarks? It would seem the LDS Church, itself, does not. The Church no longer characterizes your Lord as racist and, by inference, distances itself from the racist practice and from the racist Church leaders who implemented and continued it.

So, Janadele, do you still support a racist deity and racist doctrine, or did everything change when the Church published its latest errata?

Of course I stand by my remarks :)

There has been no change in LDS Doctrine since the time the responsibility of the Priesthood was extended to all worthy male members.

Hear counsel from living Prophets and Apostles from the 183rd Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, April 2013.

Consider this statement made by President Eyring during the Saturday morning session of General Conference:

“I am a witness of the resurrection of the Lord. And surely as if I had been there in the evening with the two disciples in the house on Emmaus road, I know that He lives as surely as did Joseph Smith when he saw the Father and the Son in the light of a brilliant morning in a grove of trees in Palmyra. This is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Only in the Priesthood keys held by President Thomas S. Monson is the power for us to be sealed in families; to live forever with our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ… I so testify as a witness of the risen Savior and our Redeemer in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen”.

I considered it. It's vacuous.

I see god is withholding the gift of eloquence.

There is no such thing as a living prophet. All prophets are pulling your leg. Though they themselves may believe they are prophetic, it is nothing more than a statement made of words.

No. He did not witness any such thing. He is parroting words he has heard others say a million times, but it is not true. There was no resurrection to witness. He does not "know" god lives. Where is the proof?

This is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Only in the Priesthood keys held by President Thomas S. Monson is the power for us to be sealed in families; to live forever with our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ… I so testify as a witness of the risen Savior and our Redeemer in the name of Jesus Christ. What a bunch of bullcrap!

Janadele, are Negroes "white and delightsome"? Is the question too difficult in that it shows the hypocrisy and bigotry of the LDS?

YES or NO to each question.

I figured you'd hold fast. But LDS Doctrine has changed, and that leaves you holding the racism bag. You still proudly proclaim it was your Lord's will and then rationalize it all under the Lord works in mysterious ways chestnut.

The Church, on the other hand, has backed away from that "God made me do it" excuse. It has moved from the position you hold (Brigham Young acted as directed by God) to a more cautious "Church records offer no clear insights into the origins of this practice." Baby steps, but at least the Church is now moving in the right direction.

Come on, Janadele. Your church is more than willing to amend Eternal Law for its own convenience. Why aren't you?
