Proof of Life After Death!!

Resume, you are a gentleman... Thank you for posting!
And....unfortunately we are not friends with tooth guy anymore. Another long story and not appropriate to be told here. Actually pretty sad about it. He is a good man and I wish him well always.
And...I know that's not what you meant....I thought these posts would best answer the questions you had about tooth guy.

Robin,

In post #1520, you said "We are here to learn and grow spiritually [my emphasis] through our own experiences and choices."

Does this mean you believe that the entire purpose of this world, and perhaps of the universe, is that humans become better, either individually or as a species?

You are a librarian. Please find and read “The Damned Human Race” by Mark Twain. I believe it was in Letters from the Earth, Bernard DeVoto, editor.

I would be interested in your opinion of it, not as literature but as concept, with respect to teleology.

xterra

PS I recommend the essay to everyone, not just to Robin. But I want her opinion on it, with respect to what I quoted from her post.
OK xterra, I will do when I can and get back to you.

I had something to say but then robin came out with 'His misses are really hits bit'

More and more I keep thinking Robin is a paid shill for JE

Really? I mean . . . really? That seems a bit of a leap.

Thanks, Torifrog.

(But I wanted Robin to use her librarian skills. :))

ETA, and after all that, I referenced the wrong article!!

This is the one I meant.

Robin, the other one is good, but not as relevant to my original question as this one is.

Oh sorry xterra ... :(

I was very diligent about not giving an opinion on the content though!

Anyway, she mostly ignores my posts, so she may do so again :)

Thanx for the link. I believe I see the point you are trying to make. My response is that I do not believe that God created the world in 6 days...based on the evidence. But, that doesn't prove to me that there is no God. Nor does it prove to me that we are not here for a reason.

Regarding the first bit I highlighted: there is another reason JE may be refusing the right to record.

Regarding the second bit I highlighted:

(1) I hope you have realized that because you noticed one or two apparent misses that turned into hits you are giving credit for far more hits than you can actually demonstrate

(2) Please re-read meg's post about the large array of possible hits when one does as JE does as simply asks for a "connection." In the Anchor bit, meg came up with about 20 possible hits off the top of her head. Ignoring for the moment that there are more possibilities, that means that it wasn't "One Word One Hit;" it was "Twenty Words One Hit." That is how the odds would be figured.

Likewise with Valerie Harper and your brother. Possible connections: He liked VH as a youngster; he had considered buying a ticket to the show; he bought a ticket to the show; someone close to him bought a ticket to the show; he read a review of the show earlier that day; he read a review of the show later that day. That's six possibilities I thought of in under a minute, so if we assume these are the only possibilities, JE's succes rate is not 1 for 1 but instead is 1 for 6.

ETA: I'm not sure that reflects it accurately. More appropriately, I think, is that it is the difference between someone hitting one of one three-point shots in basketball and someone hitting one of six three-point shots and then being told he's shooting 100%.

A Texas basketball shooter.

Oh, Robin, you missed my point entirely!

Forget god or God or Siva or Thor or whomever. (Although you seem to be discussing a Christian Jesus-based God, that isn't the issue I wanted to discuss.) Forget how many days.

Is the purpose of the universe to give humans a place to exist while they move toward / evolve / develop / improve / "perfect" (verb, not adjective) / etc? That's the teleological aspect.

What is the reason we are here, and how do you know?

There was another thread recently about the expressions like "everything happens for a reason." It is used in the same sense of "purpose" that you maintained above. Where is the proof of this?

"Wow that was a horrible accident, but I didn't even get a scratch! God must have been looking out for me." Yes, but God let the three-month baby in the other car burn to death. Huh?

As I said earlier, I DO NOT believe you are a shill for JE. But you are seriously underestimating things like confirmation bias, and overestimating your ability to see through the tricks.

And I will repeat that I would love to see effects like telepathy and telekinesis demonstrated in replicable, double-blinded, statistically-rigorous, controlled-against-cheating experiments.

And that does NOT mean that they would be "rigged" so that no one could win.

I probably put too much into one post, but I don't have time to edit it properly.* Sorry about that; do the best you can with understanding it.

*That is a paraphrase of a famous quote, Robin. Can you identify the proper quote and the author? ;) Please, if others know it, don't post the answer.

Dear Robin1 -

Why won't you answer my previous questions? Are you deliberately ignoring my questions and requests? Why?

Mentalist Derren Brown explains cold reading. Worth a watch, Robin.

Here he is in action using cold reading tricks:

He performs equal to or better than Edward.

Just finished watching both links. I do appreciate new information. But, honestly, those links taught me nothing that I didn't already know. They actually made me more confident in my ability to spot a fake. And please know I am not saying that to be annoying...I am saying it because it is my honest response. And I do thank you for posting it and trying to be helpful.

Hear me oh wondrous Flying Spaghetti Monster in all your noodliness and please heal this girl and remove the scales from her eyes! Rahmen, brothers and sisters, Rahmen!

Robin, I think you're beyond hope. You see excellent evidence that these guys ALL fake it, you read excellent articles on how they fake it and what psychological advantages they use and you read post after post of people offering you to actually discuss any of the evidence and yet you go further into your shell and just keep repeating your mantra "Well, John Edward's the real deal!"

In the spirit of your own solution to such dilemmas yet in keeping with my own (lack of) beliefs, I will not pray for you.

That's OK , I just want you to like me : ). And of course, to think I'm funny.
