Welcome, scchip!

There are a number of current threads here taking apart the performance art of John Edward, Sylvia Browne, et al. There's even a new campaign, started by a fellow newbie, on a certain Joseph Tillet. You should enjoy some of the commentary and some of the resources cited.

Make yourself comfy. There's a little something for everyone of a skeptical bent, so I'm sure you'll find something that grabs your eye.

Ello,

I've been a skeptic as far back as I remember. It used to be towards religion, as I was surrounded by that growing up, but in recent times I've been more interested in debunking psychic frauds (is there another kind?), exotic animals like Bigfoot, Spiderman and Batman, I won't have any blasphemy towards Superman tho.

I'm an IT developer and a musician of sorts, not a father, and certainly not a mom. I plead guilty on being a son and a skeptic tho. I live in a house on the countryside with my girlfriend, but grew in the city of Copenhagen.

Oh well, I hope to have some fun in here, so you probably won't find me in threads on philosophy, religion, politics or hard knox science debates. But I can't promise too much now.

Have a splendid day everyone.

^Also, a good bunch of you may know me under the moniker: Thomas. I thought I would put it in my sig, but came to realize that I can't edit the sig before x-number of posts.
So yea, I have been here on/off since 2004 or something like that. In recent years, mostly off.. So now I'm what I have always been, the Sloth on Wheels. In fact, I'm so lazy that I didn't even bother to request the password for my old account, as I don't remember what email I used those years ago.

Cheers!

Welcome back.

I should clarify that this was posted to welcome back a (now banned) sock puppet, whose post has now been removed.

ETA: Though now I realize the post was appropriate even after the deletion. :D

What's up everyone? Just realized the other day this website has a pretty active forum. Now I'll have something to do while I'm at work and Reddit is having a slow day. :D

Hello everyone! :)

Just registered here recently.

Pretty good site!

Hello everybody! Any other Utah skeptics on here?

Hi all,

Another newbie coming out of lurking.

Wow! What's happened to our social graces around here? No one's manning the Welcome Wagon.

Welcome aboard, gang! I see Darkman's already figured out a couple of key things that Newbs always ask....

You need 15 posts to be able to put a link in a post. This is typical oppression of the evil moderation team, of course. You'll encounter much more of that if you survive the hazing ritual. (Alternately: It's an anti-spam device that stops One Post Wonders from trying to link to their product or dull-as-dirt blogs. If you have a legit link you want to post, just put some spaces in it and people will figure it out. Someone will invariably close up the spaces for you in a reply, so as to create the link.)

You need 50 posts (how people get up that high, I'll never know) to put in a custom signature and avatar.

The "custom title" (Leader of the Grammar Resistance) is given out by Teh Custom Title Faeries in a thread in Forum Management. Bring cookies, beer or cash.

Do drop in to Forum Community and some of the Members Only threads. Some of our most rollicking fights are in, for instance, Sports. "Community" is sort of a real concept here. Many of us know each other, personally. But not from other areas so much as we decided we liked each other and when we travel the highways and byways we make a point of looking each other up.

Welcome, vinyson41. There are quite a few Aussies active here. Make yourself at home, grab yourself a coldie from the esky and I'll have one too while you are there. :)

Hi, all. Not much to say. I've lurked around here a few times before, but after watching several of Mr. Randi's videos on YouTube tonight — not the least compelling of which was the "Secrets of the Psychics" documentary — I can't help but admire his efforts and life's work and wanted to be a part of the community.

Speaking of YouTube, I'm also a huge fan of the Explain It All Brothers, a.k.a. QualiaSoup and TherminTrees. They have a similar sort of approach, although their deconstructions and presentations are largely illustrated and scored. Brilliantly, though, I might add.

Anyway, so that's why I'm here. I like getting to the bottom of things and understanding things. I also like discussing things and being able to explain and express my stance in an educated manner. I've always felt weak at debate and I'm hoping I can get better.

Not that I can't be relaxed and just have fun, casual chats, of course! =P But, again, I do like me some long-winded, deep back-and-forth.

Greetings!

...drag up a stump and jump in!

Greetings, new people.

This place is really weird and could be upsetting.
Some folks, like myself, should be ignored.

Yet, I'm not the worst of the worst, in all humility.
Tragic Monkey, bless his heart, could drive you insane.

I recommend sticking with the science forum.
Avoid politics with all your might.

I haven't been to the humor forum since they killed my sex thread.
Smut is not welcome, nor are illegal drugs.

I think it's ok to talk about guns, as long as you aren't promoting the act of what the guns were designed for.

If you happen to be pedantic atheists, you'll fit right in.
A marginal comprehension of math and physics doesn't hurt.

So,

Whip it out!
