Oscar Pistorius shoots girlfriend

His girlfriend was looking forward to Valentine's Day, a report of a previous "domestic incident" has been incorrectly presented as "a history of domestic violence" by the media and reports of cheating are attributed to the wrong girlfriend and police itself confirms there were no prior reported incidents between him and his girlfriend. It does not seem that way AT ALL.

You seem very wound up about a post that was merely a one-line check-in on what the current press reports were suggesting, that is, that it was not now being presented as an accidental shooting as had been the case some hours before.

I agree that "give a dog a bad name and hang him" is all too prevalent in many crime discussions, however reports of previous "domestic incidents" at a house where someone is dead and the circumstances suggest it might be a domestic incident are not entirely irrelevant.

Rolfe.

Oscar has broken down in court. The state is arguing premeditated murder and he has been remanded in custody.

It is feeling premeditated. If it was and the state proves it (they seem confident of their argument) then Oscar's life story has just been flipped on its head, at the cost of another's life.

Strange stuff.

Sorry for the mobile link but the story says he shot her through the bathroom door.

But it doesn't say which side of the door she was on. Was he hiding in the bathroom thinking it was a home invasion, or was she hiding in the bathroom from him?

If he was hiding in the bathroom all he had to do was say "who's out there" before pulling the trigger. If he didn't do this he deserves to be convicted of murder even if he thought it was an intruder.

According to newspapers, 4 shots through the bathroom door and 4 hits.

Head, arm, chest and pelvis. Where they get this information I have no idea.

I'm not sure how "accidentally shot his girlfriend because he thought she was a burglar" changing to "he shot her intentionally because he was fighting with her and had the gun handy" really affects the point against guns?

Wouldn't either scenario be a ding against the gun enthusiasts?

You would think so, but I'm sure not everyone will see it like that. :(

It's been reported that CCTV footage shows that Reeva never left the house. She had been there for as much of the night as she was alive. No way could thinking it was an intruder work, no matter what side of the door he was, as a defence.

The Sun providing a sterling service in its provision of news today. Perhaps not quite the same calibre as "Gotcha" but I'd put it in a list of the top-ten most inappropriate front-pages.

Well, I suppose that destroys my theory, and it brings back the possibility that it was an accident.

If the lead story is about this case then I think you're absolutely correct that "Corrie Michael in Child Sex Charges" is an inappropriate front-page.

I'm only going by the website.

Look at the right-hand column, and scroll down until you see the advert for The Sun's iPad version. The front page of the paper edition is depicted on the iPad.

Is that a picture of his girlfriend on the cover advertising there are "three more shots" of her inside?

It reads to me like a quote from some alleged witness claiming to have heard 3 shots, screams, then 3 more shots. Am I missing something?

I don't know. Who's the woman on the cover?

I presume it's the victim, doing what she did for a living - modelling. Is that what you think is inappropriate?

The headline says;

"03:00
3 Shots.
Screams.
Silence.

03:10
3 More
Shots.
"

And along the bottom: "Blade Runner Pistorius Murders Lover"

There are reports she was found on the bathroom floor.

If that's the case, I think all that remains to rule out an accident is the 911 call - if he called more or less immediately sobbing out that he mistook her for an intruder, he has a defense. If he didn't report it, he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
