Good scripture. Note, however, that God works through fallible human beings--including prophets--who have their agency.

Let's try another scripture. This is from D&C Official Declaration 1, spoken by Wilford Woodruff, the prophet at the time:

The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty.

Wins thread.

I'm quite certain I have read more anti-LDS "literature" than you have. I'm familiar with all the critics' arguments. Do not, however, let that deter you; spill the whole can of worms.

BTW, have you found a credible source for your claim that Joseph Smith employed (or used the services of) abortionists?

What is not credible about the first hand account of the self described Mormon apostate who left the church disgusted in the sexual behavior of the leaders? Is it simply that you don't like her account?

As for Smith's pedophilia,

Here's an account from girl who had been sealed to Smith and coerced into servicing him sexually.

Nice prophet you got there.

Agreed. And what a seductive bit of rhetoric it is that states, "trust us we speak for god and we would not lead you astray" (well, excluding Brigham Young of course). I'm sorry but BS and **** you. It's a rhetorical trick.

Bob: Hey Tim, I'm selling the Brooklyn Bridge. Would you be interested in buying it?
Tim: What evidence is there that you own the Brooklyn Bridge?
Bog: Trust me I would never, ever, lead you astray.

Why is it that gods plan of salvation sounds like a confidence scheme? The parsimonious answer is that it is.

The history of the LDS was clearly to deny priesthood to any black man.
Not so.
The first missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Islands of the Pacific were sent by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1843. Since then innumerable worthy LDS males of Polynesian descent have received the LDS Priesthood.
Polynesians descend from Lehi and are of the House of Israel. Alma 63:8 of the Book of Mormon refers to their ancestors.

Do you consider freerepublic a credible source?

It's actually just one of many places that posts the first hand accounts of women abused by Smith. In this case it's just reprinting primary sources. There are no shortages of places to find these accounts though.

Your beliefs are demonstrably incorrect and based on the claims of perverts and liars. Why not just get rid of them?
Some people have so little going for them that they have to manufacture a way to feel special by imagining that they have insights that their intellectual and moral superiors don't. The more the risible nature of these "insights" are pointed out the better they get to feel about their steadfastness in holding on to them in the face of this "persecution".

...Do you think (to cite just one example), it's "popular" to require members to pay 10% of their annual increase to the Church?

Believe what you will.

skyrider44, oddly enough tithing is wide-spread and forms part of the 'prosperity' message advocated by hugely popular preachers.

"Oral Roberts began teaching prosperity theology in 1947.[12] He explained the laws of faith as a "blessing pact" in which God would return donations "seven fold",[22] promising that donors would receive back from unexpected sources the money they donated to him. Roberts offered to return any donation that did not lead to an equivalent unexpected payment.[12] In the 1970s, Roberts characterized his blessing pact teaching as the "seed faith" doctrine: donations were a form of "seed" which would grow in value and be returned to the donor.[22][23] Roberts began recruiting "partners", wealthy donors who received exclusive conference invitations and ministry access in exchange for support.[24]"

How sad the slippery slope.

Janadele, would palming off a scam as a legitimate translation of Egyptian hieroglyphs take one down the slippery slope?
We all know this is what Smith did with the Book of Abraham.

The lie is clear and public.
Why put your faith in a scam?

The Pearl of Great Price, which includes the writings of Abraham, is my favourite Scripture :)

Why do you keep editing your posts long after others have already quoted them? You realize we can all see that, right?

Could you please provide a link to other Egyptian documents which have been translated using Joseph Smith's "dictionary".

Failing that, a link to an endorsement of the dictionary as a legitimate tool by any qualified Egyptologist will suffice.

That's some interesting insight. Your favorite scripture is the one that has been positively identified as a complete fraud. Why do you think it's your favorite? I have my ideas but I'd like to read yours.
