Canada implemented similar laws many years ago. This year's most recent shootings in Toronto revealed that the gang-bangers still weren't complying.
What now? Try a three round limit with a 'we-really-mean-it-this-time' clause???
Someone could make a 30 shot revolver, but it would be clumsy as all hell.
Lets make the rule simple. Ban civilian possession of any firearm or magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.
I was going to suggest something similar, but I figured it would only lead to people buying a silly looking gun, a box of ammo, and a can of spray paint.Let's have a law that all semi-automatic firearms come only in multicolour pastel shades with happy-faces painted on the muzzle.
There's your deterrent. Seems plausible...
At one time, there was a similar sportsman culture in the US. Real hunters only needed one shot to bring down their prey. Now it's all about firepower.
Groovy.
Lets do nothing then. Don't talk about change, don't imply change, nothing. Just ignore it. It'll go away!
Single shot pistols, rifles, and shotguns are actually very popular with hunters in the US, and are very common.
I wonder if the anti-gun people notice how much they sound like Pro-lifers? It's the same appeal to emotion, irrational fear mongering, and both based on "think of the children!!!!"
equally useless

Argument by insult. Exactly what this thread didn't need.

I've seen plenty of posts here and in other recent gun threads questioning the sanity and intentions of people who want to own semi-automatic firearms, telling them to get new hobbies and give up their "toys", and claims outright that they have blood on their hands. I've seen loaded questions get honest answers only to have the questions repeated by the same people.
You might recall reading several posts back about the agenda to make the private ownership of firearms 'socially unacceptable' in order to suppress a perceived 'gun culture'. Badgering the responsible, law abiding firearm owner and the vilification of those who've committed no crime seems to be the popular tactics. As someone had mentioned, they feel inexplicable shame for just owning a firearm.
Apparently, it's working...
How many go the gun owners here are a member of a well regulated militia?
Seems a nice easy solution. Only allow guns to people who are.
I have been listening to nothing but anti-american insults in most of these threads. irrational arguments, appeals to emotion. so I'm not supposed to mention them?
would you allow this method of argument to fly in any other thread?
I wouldn't.
Canada has had a handgun registry since 1934. The reason for maintaining the registry is to deter the criminal use of handguns. The bad guys still aren't taking it too seriously.
Despite all the laws, rules, regulations, prohibitions and restrictions, apparently any clown can still get one...
