CNN reporting a school shooting.
How dare they mention guns might be involved. Do they just want us to turn into the USSR with guns banned and everyone forced to worship Obama?
That's my prediction of a reaction on at least one gun forum before the day is over.

So the question is: why are guns the one subject that cannot be discussed civilly?

Holy crap: someone on CNN just said it couldn't be a student reacting to bullying because it isn't a high school so bullying doesn't happen there!

Who said that? Did they ever go to elementary school?

I don't understand why you don't just arm all the teachers.

Don't stop there. Arm the kids. Make bringing an auto pistol with safeties disabled to school mandatory.

Someone they had on the phone. I didn't catch what their association to all this was.

The news says they recovered a Sig and and Glock from the shooter. They haven't given any details about the shooter other than that he or she is dead; but they have mentioned that the school is K - 4th, which although not definitive makes me extremely skeptical that it's a student, "bullying" aside.

I believe it can.

However, when threads on the topic begin with speculation about the other side, strawmanning, and well-poisoning, the odds decrease precipitously.

Our thoughts at the moment should be with the victims. It's an old discussion, it can wait for a few hours at least.

It was mentioned that the shooter is both adult and currently dead, and it seems the target was the principal.

Post Retracted based on sensitivity of severity of developing situation. Interesting this "discussion" thread was created not in context to discuss it, but in context of bitching about bitching about gun control.

I haven't heard, but I'd be willing to bet money the shooter had a Y chromosome.

I just read that the principal and the school psychologist are both dead. (And the vice principal was shot in the leg or foot.)

ETA: One witness said, "The principal, vice principal and the school psychologist went into the hall. Only one person came back. It was the vice principal. The vice principal was shot in the leg or foot and came crawling back from the hall."

Does this mean the shooter was the school psychologist?

ETA: No it doesn't. I read now that the 3 went out into the hall in response to the sound of gunfire. So apparently the shooter was an outsider (or at least someone else).

I believe it can, too. I'm willing to participate, but we need to keep the matter within the confines of valid arguments. I believe that the main reason for the disparity of opinions with regards to gun use come from ignorance about firearms themselves. It is important for people to be educated about guns before making arguments about them.

One witness says something like 100 rounds were fired.

Oh man. . . that does not bode well.

1010 WINS is saying that 27 people, 14 of them children were killed?
Anyone else saying that, or is this just CBS?

I hope to heck this is wrong.

school psychologist

You have school psychologists these days? My primary school didn't even have a nurse. If you were sick the secretary looked after you.

Fox just reported they are getting numbers between 12 and "in the 20's" wounded or killed.

I think it's pretty clear at the moment that nobody has the foggiest; other reports are saying that it's "just" 3. I certainly hope it's the latter.

Guns don't kill people; people kill people. This guy could've stacked a higher body count by setting the building on fire, so are we gonna outlaw matches and gasoline? What next, we gonna outlaw grenades?? Don't be ridiculous.
