Why so much attention to the Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito case

Why so much attention to the Amanda Knox case?

My objective point of view is that most if not all the key people connected to this case have been slandered or slurred over the years, I really see not point in getting into a contest as to who said what first, it smacks of 6 year olds arguing who started it first.

The media in its various forms have no interest in this case other than selling their newspaper or getting people you to watch their particular TV channel, do you have an opinion about the media’s involvement in this case?

Slander is defamation of character without cause (spreading lies about them).

Mignini hasn't been slandered, neither have Maresca, Comodi, Stephanoni and various others - they are manifestly guilty of (almost) every immoral and criminal act they've been accused of.

Also, this is NOT the thread to discuss the material of the case. Only uninvolved peoples' interest in it.

You got to remember here sweetheart, not everyone has the emotional stock invested in Amanda Knox like you do.

You should head to the GS&P section to discuss your supposed psychic abilities and teach us all how you know when someone is "desperate for attention of any kind." It's got to be a lot more fruitful than defending a whore.

Would this be the intellectually honest part or the charming and witty part?

The case seems large and interesting because it reads like an opera. It has been "sexed" up by exactly the behavior you see here. Simple minded insults tossed at innocent persons who were entangled into a nightmare that then dragged on for years in courts and courts of public opinion and in every form of media.

Its interesting that one poster here seems determined to argue the case for calling Miss Knox unkind names all while ignoring what the disaster of being wrongly accused and slandered and jailed in another country might bring to other peoples minds.

There are several whores in this case...none of them named Knox however. There is a whore named Maresca and another named Mignini and a few others...Rita, and Monica and Stefanoni.

Another beautiful girl named Meredith had her life taken from her. And even though she was beautiful and normal and nice just like Miss Knox...has her loss even been spoken to here?

Its sad to see the topic dragged into the gutter so unkindly and so quickly by what appears to be a few adolescent preteens thinking out loud.

Sure the thread went on for years...but so did the case. In fact the case is still not over. That wont happen until sometime in 2013. And even then the topic will go on because someone will have to examine how such a travesty was allowed to ever happen. And that investigation is likely to be followed closely by people interested in the story of how and who allowed this to happen.

I disagree that people are interested because of one girl. The whole cast of characters are a mix of interesting and sad and sometimes beautiful and sometimes quite ugly actors. A girl was robbed of her life and two others were robbed of 4 young years each by being wrongly accused and jailed for the crime.

The case is interesting because it shows how very simple minded and even outrageous some people in power can be. A case so ludicrous and fact-less and yet it took millions of dollars to defend against...

All that plus fighting against false impressions created by the tabloid media and designed to sell copy...and we still have trolls or teens poking each other and giggling...sad really.

..snip..

Go to any Internet message board where current events are discussed and you'll "have trolls or teens poking each and giggling." We just had a thread about a woman who took her own life because she had a horrifying sexual disorder where she always felt as if she was engaged in unsatisfying, painful sex. Like an any other thread, she was mocked and ridiculed. But unlike Amanda Knox, she didn't have a cavalry of Knights in shining armor fighting to protect her honor.

You might think Amanda Knox and those involved in the case should be treated like a feberge egg. But to most others, it's just another story being milked by the media. There are a lot of stories in the news that might deserve pity; a woman spending four years in a foreign prison for a crime she didn't commit and having her sexual (mis)adventures being made public is quite low in my list.

For someone for whom the case holds little interest you nevertheless seem to harbour strong (and highly pejorative) feelings about the principal character. Any idea why? It might illuminate the discussion if you explained it. You clearly and quite understandably dislike being dismissed as a sad troll so maybe you could explain your POV.

Clear breach of both the MA and Kmortis's mod warning - post reported.

If anyone has negative opinions about Amanda Knox then he or she is entitled to that opinion. Regardless of what your psychic abilities tell you, I do not "habour strong (and highly pejorative) feelings about the principal character" as I already mentioned. But, as kmortis said, this thread is not about my or any other members' personal feelings and I am sure he will take proper action against anglolawyer's inability to follow simple rules.

Derogatory words are usually described when a woman's sexual behavior is made public so it should be no surprise this case is no different. This simple and easy to understand principle seems to escape the Knights in shining armor.

WRT to this forum, it is certainly well within the MA and any other reasonable, unwritten rule to call a non-member a derogatory name. However, personalizing discssions and calling other members names is not and moderator action is being requested.

Well, let's see what comes of it.

I have called you no names and regard as evasive and rather pathetic your attempt to weasel out of justifying your description of Amanda Knox as 'a whore', such being a relevant attitude to the topic of this thread given that it is concerned with precisely why the case has attracted the interest it has. In my opinion, mindlessly derogatory attitudes like yours are probably representative of a significant minority of those who have any knowledge of the case and it would interest me to hear you develop it. Still, if you prefer to bother the mods I certainly won't try to stop you.

Other than "a sad troll"? You will probably try to say you didn't really say this, but it won't fool anyone.

No, it was some one else who said that, not me. That drew a reaction from Unbeloved and I was commenting on that saying s/he doubtless did not want to be thought of that way and might like to explain why s/he had resorted to calling Amanda Knox 'a whore'. You need to read back a little. I will not be 'trying to say' anything nor fool anyone (as if I could, with sharp guys like you around).

Sorry missed the investigation and trial, when were they found guilty?

The simple fact is none of the people you mentioned have been censured or disciplined let alone arrested tried and convicted, obviously if the Supreme Court confirmed the second level trial verdict Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito could try suing any or all.
What are you views of how the media handled this case?

spot on

Terrific comment. Right on the money.

Well that is an interesting response to a post.

Do you care to expand on your comments, what have you learnt of Meredith Kercher?

Can you understand why her family say Meredith has been forgotten?

I can understand why the family say that, but it's completely off the beam. If her murder had been competently investigated and prosecuted in the first place, almost nobody would now remember who Meredith was, sadly.

Uncomfortable as it may be to realise, it is the prosecution and persecution of a couple of innocent friends of hers which has ensured that Meredith's name is recognised by many many people, and she is not forgotten as so many victims of ultimately routine and senseless murders are.

Rolfe.

Ah, you're back! I was just explaining to everyone that we had pretty much answered the question of why so much attention was paid to this case - it's because it had a million dollar PR campaign whereas most other cases don't have that luxury.

All we need to do now is produce the evidence for this million dollar PR campaign. Unfortunately I don't have any, but as you are the one who mentioned it I feel sure that you do.

If you can just produce it, this whole thread can be brought to a conclusion. Please go ahead.
