"I'm not normally one to demand evidence but I'm prepared to make an exception in this case."

:boggled:

I would have never told them from whence I came. It had nothing to do with "skeptics" and everything to do with "I's a juvenile male who thinks it;s hilarious when people's little pet causes become their entire existence so let's go mess with them"
I know what I am, and I'm good with it! ;)

So as a juvenile male it's your privilege to mess with others?

apparently as a hyper serious person it's your privilege to be the arbitrator of funtime, so yes i guess it is!

Cool :)

According to that I have more privilege than a Saudi prince.

Imagine if you were a tall, good looking Jewish banker in 1942. Even while you were on the train to Auschwitz, you could gloat over how good your life was.

I don't know if this was meant seriously, but there were charts presented (on A+) which had the white homeless guy as significantly more privileged that the transexual lesbian woman with a house and a good job. I think that my failure to acknowledge how useful they were was taken as evidence of bad faith.

It's not that simple. There's some math involved.
Did anybody give you your privilege score chart?
That's lunacy.... how is being blind worth -750? I'm not saying blindness is fun but I'd happily argue it's far easier to be a fully functioning blind person than a fully functioning Homeless person (-250) and I can't imagine being blind gets you treated so much worse than being disfigured (-40) or in some places being gay (-150). Blindness is actually worse than everything else on the list.

Apparently a person who is gay (-150) black(-100) female (-50) deaf (-50) Muslim (-50) disfigured (-40) immobile (-30) innumerate (-30) poor (-25) Greek (-20) short (-10) and unemployed (0) but is cis (+20) (total = -535) is still better off than a

straight (+25) white (+25) male (+25) Jewish (+25) Norwegian (+25) able bodied (+25) cis (+20) tall (+10) handsome (+10) MD (+10) with an income of around $200000 per year (+10) who is numerate (0) but who happens to be blind (-750) (total = -540).

Yeah, somehow I don't think so.

Further, how is Poland part of such a low group? For that matter, how is Ukraine? Why are Germany and the UK below the US? Why is India one monolithic crap hole when actually India has some of the most affluent places in the world?

No, this is a joke.

Do you have links to any of these? I really need to see this...

Eh, it just seems like making deliberately sexist comments to someone who is upset by sexism isn't taking the piss out of them, so much as reinforcing their opinion that the stereotypes are correct. Personally, I think that isn't funny, as much as counterproductive, if the goal was to show that they might be wrong.

For me, it would be like having a bunch of Christians hanging out and saying to themselves, "That atheist group over there is always claiming Christians are intolerant jerks. Let's go tell them they are going to burn in Hell! Ha ha! That will show them!"

But hey, there are people who still find rotten eggs funny, so to each their own, I guess. :)

I've done what you allude to in the first paragraph a few times, but not to take the piss out of them. I did it to be mean.

Look, I spend my weekends playing xbox and watching cartoons, farting and making crude jokes to (and with) my wife. I know "juvenile male". It's not an excuse or a license to be an asshat to someone who is having problems dealing with men being asshats. . . and far, far worse.
This is important to remember. Aside from the mods and the posters like Coyote, there are people there with serious issues. They have been promised a safe place, and it is already missing that mission. No need to make it even harder for the people to whom this kind of safety - this place where they may feel they can speak to people who will understand what it is like to be them - may be important.

Yep.

What does it have to do with atheism again?

Weird. That goes against the only sensible definition of privilege I saw put forth on the A+ forums. That was that it isn't about the population statistics of how successful you are, and it's not something you compare. Rather, it's about non-overlapping categories of possible life experiences. A straight person will never have to deal with coming out as gay to their parents. Someone without a hidden disease (e.g. mental illness) will never have to agonise over telling their place of work or not.

This definition never squares with other discussions they have though where they say for example that there is no male privilege. Otherwise that would imply that there are no negative male experiences that are unknown to women. Best example I can think of is people trying to provoke you into a violent situation.

This.
