I'm hoping the same thing. I thought Obama looked bad, but when it comes right down to it, all Romney could do was dodge.
I would love to see an ad that has Romney saying he doesn't want a 5 trillion dollar tax cut, alongside an explanation of his proposed 5 trillion dollar tax cut. I think there were several places where Obama wasn't thinking quickly on his feet, but where Romney just said things that are easily shown to be either flip-flops from previous positions or, in some cases, just plain wrong.
Not thinking quickly on his feet? More like not thinking at all.
That performance was so bad it shocked me -- I thought everyone kept saying how good at debates Obama was?
How hard is it to just quickly address the opponents lies and let the world see them for what they are?
Would it have been hard for Obama to just say things like
"Even in the best of times U.S. unemployment hovers around X. And when I took office it was Y. So 23 million is an incredibly misleading number. Are you purposefully trying to mislead the public, or had you just not thought of what should be obvious to anyone with a gradeschool education?"
"We didn't turn the economy around as fast as we wanted, that's a shame. But what would you have done differently, Mr. Romney? What decisions have I made that you fault, in the last 4 years? What decisions would you have made differently, and how? Oh I remember -- you would have let these companies fail, and hoped for some kind of phoenix to come out of the ashes of the ruined economy. That may work in business, Mr. Romney, but not with a country full of living, breathing humans."
"Why do you keep claiming I have taken 716 billion from medicare? I explained it before, it was money saved by increasing the efficiency of the programs and refusing to let the medical industry drive their costs out of control. You should be familiar with this kind of thing, since its pretty much exactly what you have made a career out of doing with companies, so again I can only assume you are trying to mislead the public."
"You cite numbers for how many hospitals and doctors said they would stop taking new medicare patients. Are you aware of all the other more credible studies that have completely debunked those numbers ? Are you purposefully choosing the most extreme studies, in order to mislead the public?"
???????
Sometimes I think Obama isn't just an oreo, he is like one of those mushy oreos that fall into the glass of milk and you don't get at them until the very end and they just fall apart under any pressure at all.
Joe you might think it isn't worth his time to unpack and refute all these things, but I feel the opposite. I'm tired of hearing the same old "we did this, we did that" bullet points that the president regurgitates every time he speaks. He certainly could have called Romney out more on the basic arithmetic thing.
