StopSylvia email: "French journalist needs help"

The unusual last name (Nacek) set off my "might be an anagram" detector, but running "BARBARANACEK" through some online anagram solvers yielded nothing. "Bar a Banacek", perhaps?

Try un-anagraming it and running it through that new thing they have, "Google".
:D

Evidently a Hungarian born TV producer/production person. There are a few listings for her, but nothing that would indicate how she might approach this.

Try reading post #19 above, in which I mentioned that I had done so. :D :D

But thanks.

Oops. You're right - I missed #19. :o

The sites where she gets mention just seem to be media networking sites, with no commentary of any sort.

By the way, it had occurred to me.... Did they clarify whether they're interviewing you "for the record" or alternately as background research? For the former, in which case they'd be using your name and direct quotes, I think you need to be on your A Game, but for the latter, you just have to be your normal careful and even-tempered self.

I reckon you know this but I'll repeat it for my own peace of mind.
Robert.
don't trust reporters.
Work out what you're going to say,
Record the interview so that, later, when the reporters version 'hits the street' you can compare their story with your interview.
There is no off switch with reporters, shock, scandal, horror gets them on the front page.
Be very careful out there

For what it's worth, I am a native French speaker, and if you need any help with revising a translation I could take a look for you. If your friend is fluent it's probably not necessary but just in case a native speaker would help, feel free to PM me.

Good luck!

It has come to my attention that this same French journalist has approached many prominent skeptics with the same request. The journalist's name is Barbara Necek if anyone wants to do a little research.

Ward

To the best of my knowledge, she is very legit. She has realized or taken part in some excellent documentaries for one of the best Franco-German TV channel, ARTE, focusing on conspiracy theories, for example the "Protocols of the Elders of Sion" .

My friend is indeed fluent, but lives about a thousand miles away, so coordinating this with him may be problematic. I will keep your kind offer in mind, thanks!

Dunno what happened, but I had requested that the phone interview take place yesterday morning, and Ms. Necek did not call. She also never replied to the email I sent a week ago in which I specified the date and time I would be available for the interview, so perhaps she never received it.

I will email her one last time and then will let it drop.

That is so rude. OK he might have an excuse to cancel an interview once, but a second time, both without notice shows that you are not very important in her eyes. If you were important then he would treat you better, such as canceling the other event that caused her not to interview you at the agreed time.

How about giving her a hard time? Such as not being available when she calls next? Get Susan to give an implausible reason for not taking the call. Like you are washing your hair, for the next two hours!?

... or referring to her by pronouns of alternating genders?

That would serve him right! :D

But yes, I agree that my interview was apparently not important to her. I will not write asking what happened, but will wait for her to make the next overture.

You must realize there's a very pressing matter of the utmost importance in the French news these days : members of a handball team, some of them members of the winning olympic team, have been caught fiddling with and gambling on matches results ... You can't expect journalists wasting their time with secondary matters like thousand of people being conned by psychics ... :p

Even if there was something like this I would expect at least a phone call before the scheduled interview time saying "cannot do the interview now..."

So would I ... that's called "politesse élémentaire" over here, something some journalists obviously don't abide by ...
