Treat everyone and every living thing with as much respect as a human can, with the knowledge that all people make mistakes from time to time, so get over yourself and sometimes say yes to a cup of coffee when offered.

End of rules.

:) :) :)

I like the bacon atheism proposed earlier in the thread better.

That's not really the point. The A+ creed is that rape jokes are NOT FUNNY and that anyone who laughs at rape jokes are D-BAGS. But Sara Silverman makes plenty of rape jokes including ones about being molested as a child, not to highlight the struggles of rape victims but to be edgy.

Essentially there are no hard and fast rules in A+ and whether you are going to be condemned or applauded largely depends on their mood, that was the point I was making.

They have a creed but there are no hard and fast rules, sounds like you're contradicting yourself, I must go and look myself to see which it is, I'd never heard of it till I started reading this thread.

Ok so some comedian makes a joke explicitly condoning rape, and someone's immediate reaction is "hey rape jokes aren't funny" (which I find quite understandable), then someone else on a related forum makes favorable comments about another comedian who has made jokes which whilst about rape, in no way condone rape. This somehow makes all the people who post on these forums hypocrites, can you see why I'm having problems following your logic here?

Whew...

Thanks Paul that gives me some breathing room. I have a few more years to repent my white (though freckled) heterosexual male ways before I have to start repenting my old white (though freckled) heterosexual male ways.

The general rule is that everything is permitted as long as you're perceived to be on their side. They may dress it up in justification but ultimately the principal factor is whether you are allied to them. If you're not you're a pariah, regardless of how similar to theirs are your views.

That's the main initial objection to the whole Atheism Plus debacle, the fact that seemingly arbitrarily one can be declared persona non grata, not because of the strength of your argument but because of a decision about your character.

They have whims of steel.

And if you're not with them you're against them so you become fair game ... wait fair game... where have I heard that before?

Doesn't the posting of Sarah Silverman's video undermine this claim?

No. She is perceived to be on their side therefore the casual racism and rape jokes are OK. She's one of us despite doing the very things that have already been described as off limits.

I'm highlighting the inconsistency here. NO RAPE JOKES! Oh, Sarah Silverman, come on in!

C0nc0rdance makes very good videos, and he is also on The Magic Sandwich Show. If you can watch his videos on YouTube.

Where he appears along side the pariah Thunderf00t who has been cast out into the utter darkness by the tribal leaders and whose name is anathema!

It would if you wanted a movement that was looking to resolve issues and be active, but if you read their "rule of admission", it is clear that it is more of a club than a movement.

The comments are actually interesting. From their definitions, this place is for marginalized voices, I guess like PZ.

Something funny I found:

Slurs: -ist language is not permitted. That one should be pretty self-explanatory, but avoiding language that is ableist seems to be a hurdle. (Here are some ableist words to avoid and some suggested alternatives.)
Not only are the "ableist words" hyper-sensitive, but some words appear on both lists. Dumb, yes. Oh, wait, "dumb" is a "bad word"! (Or a good word. Depending upon which list you are looking at.)
these are ableist words

stupid
crazy
dumb
lame
insane
moron
spaz
numbskull
dim-wit (or anything -wit)
weak (as in, “that’s weak”)
retarded/retard
hysterical
idiot
...
Here are some "ableist language alternatives":
Instead of “Lame”

Annoying
Irritating
Stupid
Ridiculous
Aggravating
Frustrating
Infuriating
Baseless
Obtuse
Unintelligent
Ignorant
Uninformed
Asinine
Fallacious
Pathetic
Weak
Poor
Feeble

What amazes me is that people actually sit around and think this stuff up. What a sad way to go through life.
