The Nazis a Warning from History

George Santayan said it with such elegance it is worth repeating in this humble forum

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it

I rented those from Netflix back in 2008, I believe. Excellent program.

I say: Learning from history but failing to act on it condemns people to repeat it.

I say: Thinking that times have changed and people are different now and it couldn't happen here condemns you to not be able to learn from history.

True. Keep in mind there are some that remember the past and are determined to repeat it, if they think the outcome will favor them.

Sounds like the typical Lawful Evil characters. Sad when someone lives a life that can be personified by D&D's alignment system.

Too bad whenever someone tries to present the Nazis as a lesson we should learn from, they get shouted down for Godwin.

That might be because sometimes the Nazi history lesson is used inappropriately? That is, it is applied to situations which are not analogous.

Yes, Nazi analogies are useful, but when used inappropriately, they become ridiculous. By all means introduce the Nazis into an argument, but make sure you're not getting things out of proportion or using a guilt-by-association fallacy.

I'd like to see this show, so please, don't spoil the ending.

Spoiler alert: Germany takes over Europe and then immediately regrets it when Spain, Greece, and Italy keep asking for more money.
