I guess it could be more obvious to others, but I was reading reports that stated this was alll due to some anti-Islamic movie made by Americans that was just released.

Unfortunately I can't find any proof such a movie even exists.
 
They deserve to live in a dump like Egypt.

I'm very sympathetic to this line of logic, but unfortunately it's irrelevant. They don't think that way. I suspect that the thought process is more along the lines that they're poor and powerless because they've fallen out of Allah's favor. I they want to become powerful, they need to prove their worthiness to Allah. And this is a test: the purpose isn't to punish us because Allah can't defend himself, but to demonstrate to Allah that they will do anything for him. Allah isn't powerless to strike us down, rather he has given them a chance to redeem themselves. And the weakness of our response will prove this interpretation is correct, for if Allah did not want them to do this, then we would have stricken them down for the offense. After all, we certainly have the power to do so, and that's what they would have done if they had the power and we stormed their embassies. It must be Allah that is preventing us from retaliating, thus proving the righteousness of their actions.

In other words, our logic is irrelevant to them. They operate under their own set of rules, and our response is unlikely to address the problem in terms that they will find persuasive.

Is there proof that they are rioting over Jones, or is that speculation based on the possibility only? Could be just uncoordinated coincidental stupidity on both parts.

Like this? Or this? Or this? I'm pretty sure the Pope has been mocked in episodes or movies of of Family Guy, South Park, and Naked Gun. And while the Catholic League may call for a boycott, I don't recall anybody storming an Embassy.

Guys usual disclaimer , I am taking christianity because that's the culture I am most akin to but I am sure somebody in asia could find example with buddhism or inddusism or whatever, but here is my two cent.

People burned down cinema and there were riots in my country when the film "the last temptation of christ" 25 years ago was shown. I darkly remember there was even a death or two.

So to cut the chase, pretty much *ALL* believer of all religion feel the right to defend their allmighty powerful gods.

Heck they even have sometimes a word for it : blasphemy. And even law against it in some countries.

Did some more Googling. It seems that in addition to the Terry Jones 'Muhammed trial' video, there's a feature film that mocks Islam, funded by expatriate Egyptian Christians.

Terry Jones is connected to that movie as well....

If the Egyptian bunch were waving ar-raya around (as they obviously were, per the video on CNN), then at least some of them are open jihadis.
