Looks like they picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.

Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and hauled down the American flag, replacing it with a black standard with Islamic emblems, apparently in protest of the production of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

From CNN

Yay God! Oh Muhammahd, or whatever the :rule10: he's called.

Well this isn't good.

I hope they reinforce the embassy with Marines.

"The U.S. Embassy said in a statement Tuesday that...
"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.""

It said what!?

"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

That's what I thought it said.

And don't these protesters do any work? They just seem to wander the streets moaning about one thing after another.

From your wiki link:

...says that the “market of jihad” has opened in Egypt and “the doors of martyrdom have opened,” and every able-bodied man must participate.

EVERY able bodied man? Any chance we can fool them all into suicide bombing a stadium filled with cardboard cutouts simultaneously?

"Someone go back to Cairo and get a :rule10:load of pounds!

But then the detonator doesn't work and Jim has to shoot the explosives. We need a better plan.

My apology to the protesters

Dear Egyptian protesters:

I am so sorry that your god is so weak and powerless and easily hurt that a dirt-ignorant mob of thugs must be brought forth to defend the honor of said helpless deity.

Yours truly,
WildCat

Good point. Why doesn't God come down and go postal on the cartoon guy his own damn self?

Are you hopelessly naive and easily led, but cannot get a loan to pay for the auditing at your local Scientology center?

Give Islam a try. It's free and we think you'll stick with it for life.

Because if you don't, we'll kill you.

If that's an official statement on behalf of the American government, someone should get fired.

That's sad. Is there no condemnation of the thugs who actually violated embassy grounds?!

Here's a statement by Mohammed Al-Zwahiri, one of the organizers...

"I just want to say, how would the Americans feel if films insulting leading Christian figures like the pope or historical figures like Abraham Lincoln were produced?""

Like this? Or this? Or this? I'm pretty sure the Pope has been mocked in episodes or movies of of Family Guy, South Park, and Naked Gun. And while the Catholic League may call for a boycott, I don't recall anybody storming an Embassy.

It seems that the press release was issued in advance of the protests, not in response to them, at least according to the way Bikyamasr describes it.

EDIT: Bikyamasr also reported today that an Egyptian newspaper was warning about "intelligence" regarding attacks on both the American and Israeli embassies.

And Egyptian tourism just took another nose dive, no doubt.

I think it's funny. I also laugh at a good atheist joke.

I guess it's time for them to stop being a bunch of whiny little wimps and just accept humor and criticism.
