Why don't you tell that to

...people you've never met, Robert, and people who have no demonstrable experience in forensic document analysis, digital document representation, and some like...

Lord Monckton...

...who specifically disavow any such expertise.

None of these people have been able to withstand voir dire in court to qualify as expert witnesses. Any legal challenge based on their "evidence" has already been shown to be dead in the water on those grounds. How you can continue to wave your hands wildly and claim they're "experts" is simply beyond my ability to grasp.

No, Robert. You don't get to play the "forty medical witness" game here. You've been confronted right here on this forum with expertise you cannot match, nor which can be rebutted simply by naming people we've already discussed at length. Stop going in circles. Either admit you don't have the expertise to continue this discussion, or else pay attention to it.

And then you can try to explain it to Adobe which apparently according to a certain anti-birther, only proffers instruction using code words which only the enlightened can understand

That's just another way of saying you didn't understand the explanation. And yes, these document formats are designed, implemented, and manipulated by people with a great deal of enlightenment in the form of formal education and industry experience. You don't have any of that. And neither do you any of your pseudo-experts named above. The courts have said so. I've shown so. And you simply don't listen.

The problem of representing mixed-media documents in a device-specific way seems complex because it is complex. Stop pretending it isn't. And you don't have the skill to interpret it, so stop trying. Or, if you want, you can answer my challenges above.

1. Using only the tools named by your pseudo-experts, you -- Robert Prey -- produce a PDF 1.3 document that the tool you named in your help-file text (Adobe Acrobat) recognizes as having layers.

2. You -- Robert Prey -- Show me the parts of the Obama PDF, reproduced above, that demarcate the layers you say are there.

Don't simply assume that your pseudo-experts, if they were here, would have an answer to my challenges either. You -- Robert Prey -- put up or shut up.

-- that they really mean the opposite of what they I say.

Fixed that for you.

I was going to email Sheriff Joe to ask him when he is going to investigate the birth certificates of the still living ex presidents, sadly he does not have an email address lsited on his deparment's website.
Good luck with that, he refused to investigate Romney despite being inundated with signatures requesting him to do so. I wonder why...

I do not read links unless the poster states a point. Do you have a point?

Yes, it's clear that you're selectively reading this issue. You refused to read the entire first 100 pages of this thread where we went over the claims.

What was the link? Oh, just another judicial decision throwing out your forty medical witnesses pseudo-experts as non-experts and affirming that the Hawaii statements of certification stand on Full Faith and Credit as sufficient for the purposes of establishing Barack Obama's eligibility.

So yes, the point is what we've been saying all along: you have no legal basis, and you have no factual basis. You're done.

Methinks Robert has had his lists confused.

Wouldn't be the first time. He has a habit of padding his lists of "experts" and "witnesses." If the same thing happens here as happened when he did this in the JFK thread, we'll go through that list one more time debunking every single pseudo-expert, and Robert will completely ignore those refutations, and then in two weeks he'll post the same list with three more names, claiming their "expertise" trumps whatever's being discussed.

Good luck with that, he refused to investigate Romney despite being inundated with signatures requesting him to do so. I wonder why...

Given that his father was born in Mexico, which disqualifies him according to some Birthers, and that he has presented to the public only a faxed copy of his digest birth certificate, I wonder why there hasn't been as much fervor from the Birther crowd over vetting him too. They're worried about the Constitution, right? Not just some particular candidate?

If Wikiperdia were a reliable, objective source of information ,then Conservapedia.Com would not exist.

A sample of their oeuvre

Robert, there is some great stuff in there. You should have spent the last ten pages referring to the birth certificate as the alleged birth certificate, and when we stopped whining about that you could have switched over to Obama's alleged birth.

He seems to be edging toward claiming that the information in the certificate was faked.

...

And then you can try to explain it to Adobe which apparently according to a certain anti-birther, only proffers instruction using code words which only the enlightened can understand -- that they actually mean the opposite of what they say.

"PDF files can contain layered content if they are created from layered documents by using applications such as Adobe InDesign. As a result, a single page of the PDF file can contain different layers with different content." -- Adobe

Wait, so you're saying that you're not "enlightened", and thus cannot understand what Jay was saying?

I think we all knew that already. It's been adequately demonstrated by your staunch refusal to address Jay's rather technical posts in any detail whatsoever. In fact, several people have pointed out that your precious quote refers to documents that were layered to begin with, which scans aren't.

He seems to be edging toward claiming that the information in the certificate was faked.

He's not edging toward it; he's gone there explicitly. He demands that there is no legal reason preventing the original paper document from being made available for inspection, and that it could be done if only Obama himself would authorize it. Further, he insinuates that Hawaii archive officials have "suspiciously" rebuffed law enforcement officers who have gone their specifically to demand access.

Of course no such law allows Obama to authorize such examination, or anyone else but the curators of such records to examine them directly. And Robert forgets that Arpaio's flunkies were not there as official LEOs, and that Hawaii law strictly governs who may access or request vital records.

But since all their allegations of forgery have been laughed out of court, they have to raise the stakes somehow. Hence all the wild tales that Hawaii is now complicit in the conspiracy.

Wait, so you're saying that you're not "enlightened", and thus cannot understand what Jay was saying?

In this thread, and at length in his JFK thread, Robert's arguments take a decidedly schizophrenic approach to expertise. He demands, as he has lately, that we have to respect the conclusions drawn by certain named experts because, as eyewitnesses or highly qualified practitioners, they have ultimate authority. When we ask to see the credentials and prior work establishing that authority, we are told that to do so would be an "ad hominem" argument, as would be the discovery that the named individuals don't have (and in some cases, don't even claim to have) any of the expertise attributed to them. When we find that the pseudo-experts have no credibility as experts, Robert says that we have to pay attention to their findings, which suddenly have become independent, objective evidence that can't be undermined by the ineptitude of the people who formulated it.

But if any other expertise -- especially any displayed by JREF partcipants -- is brought to bear on the problem, Robert immediately disregards it as sophistry and handwaving so he can avoid discussing it on its merits. Anyone who has been to college only has "book learning," which has no place in his arguments, either as expert commentary or as refutation. Formal education is not something Robert considers when making his claims, nor anything he seems to respect. Nor does anyone's practical or professional experience matter, if it disagrees with Roberts beliefs. Because no matter how adeptly argued and how factually correct, Robert will still just refer back to his lists of lofty names that apparently trump all of that, no matter how little he has vetted their claims.

In fact, several people have pointed out that your precious quote refers to documents that were layered to begin with, which scans aren't.

Robert still seems confused about the difference between objects and layers. And this is understandable: the pseudo-experts he quotes maintain the same error. Rather than say, "Sorry, we mistook objects for layers," they say, "No, regardless of what anyone else says, those are still 'layers' and they shouldn't be there."

His help file refers to exactly one case: a document produced in Adobe InDesign that has been exported as a 1.6-or-later PDF with certain options selected, and which Adobe Acrobat has difficulty printing correctly because it cannot properly translate the InDesign layer model into the optional-content semantic of Acrobat's /OC and /OCG directives.

(In 1.6 or later, the optional-content model can be used to represent legacy layering information from the authoring application, or it can be used to provide interactive rich content for display only. As with many other design decisions in the PDF format, this one seems not to have been well thought out, and so the help file has been provided to assist in resolving the amphibolistic optional-content directives for printing.)

The Obama PDF is version 1.3, which is long before those directives were introduced, and (as a matter of inspection) contains no layered-content information of any kind, even using the /PieceInfo method described in previous pages.

It is more likely that Robert is simply trying to erode my credibility. He seems to be arguing, "Jay said that PDFs couldn't have layers, but here's a help file from Adobe themselves saying that PDFs have layers, so Jay doesn't know what he's talking about." In other words, he's found the keywords he's looking for, but can't be bothered to understand the underlying concepts to the point of knowing whether the same thing is being discussed.

The sad and inescapable fact remains that Mara Zebest and others simply pointed to ordinary PDF objects -- the kind that all PDF files are composed of -- and mistakenly said they were layers from the authoring application. For all Robert Prey's handwaving about some on-the-fly Acrobat help file, he has completely ignored the deliberate, explicit statement in the Adobe PDF reference manual -- the authoritative work on the subject -- that says in effect, "Don't make the mistake of assuming that any PDF groupings mimic the layers and groups in our creative authoring tools." They specifically call out the Zebest error and specifically say it's an error. So Prey's "Tell it to Adobe" ploy is pretty much dead in the water. Adobe is telling Zebest she's wrong.

Now, that I've answered your question, you can answer one that a lot of people have asked you -

What is your theory on the POTUS' eligibility to serve, with the evidence that supports your theory.

Put up, or shut up.

First posted September 7, 2012

Mr. Prey,

You have been asked a question that is:

a. On topic; and
b. Falls within your self limit of "one question at a time".

Are you going to actually address this? This would serve to actually advance this beyond yourself demanding answers to questions, and then complaining that the answers to your technical questions (concerning computer science, law, etc) are technical in nature and that the respondents are engaging in "technobabble" or are otherwise hiding behind "book learning". Answer the questions posed to you.

Interestingly, it looks like Zullo has had himself another Hawaiian vactioninvestigation, this time trying for an in-person interview with Verna K. Lee and trying to obtain a copy of Virginia Sunahara's LFBC (which the Birthers think was used as a "template" for Obama's).

Naturally, he was turned down due to a lack of proper credentials (nor did Verna think his credentials were real :D).

According to the Pdf 1.3 specification on page 477
The PDF features described in this section allow applications that generate or
process PDF files to embed private data within a document for their own use.
Examples include information on object grouping for a graphics editor or the
layer information used by Adobe Photoshop®. Such private data can convey information
meaningful to the application that produces it, but is typically ignored
by general-purpose PDF viewer applications. It can be stored in a PDF document
in any of three ways:
• In a page-piece dictionary (Section 8.4.1) associated with an individual page or
a form XObject
• Embedded in a content stream by means of marked-content operators
(Section 8.4.2)
• In a structure hierarchy global to the entire document (Section 8.4.3)
those are the ways to store application data like layers. So, how where those layers stored Robert?

ETA: Anyone got a clue what a pdf looks like when you open it in Photoshop or InDesign? Might those programs interpret data erroneously as layers?

You can always tweet him.

This has been said many times before but perhaps repetition will get you to understand. Adobe does not mean the opposite of what they say in that quote. They mean exactly what they say. The problem is they mean the opposite of what YOU THINK they say. That's either because you are incapable of understanding or because you don't want to understand and I'm not going to try to guess which it is.

I just like saying that word.

I discussed /PieceInfo dictionaries previously. None appear in the Obama PDF.

There is no document outline in the Obama PDF /Catalog.

I left the content-stream type and filtration designators intact in the Obama PDF above. Knowledgeable readers can thereby assure themselves that the content streams attached to the objects are not application-specific content streams that may embed application-specific data with any hope of a PDF renderer being able to read or interpret it.

There are no layers in the Obama PDF. None.

ETA: Anyone got a clue what a pdf looks like when you open it in Photoshop or InDesign? Might those programs interpret data erroneously as layers?

I have yet to get a single Adobe creative product to recognize layered content in PDF, even content they created themselves, were exported to a PDF, and then read back in. The only method I've found to be successful is adding a layer in Acrobat and then reading it back in Acrobat. Reading the same PDF in other Adobe products produces simply a flattened single-layer document, with the objects in the "new" Acrobat layer lumped in with all the rest of the objects.

I've heard it claimed that Obama's mother gave birth to him on the airplane while he was the plane was over international waters.

The birth certificate tells a different story, of course, but what would it read as if it were true since there would be no street address?

Edited to Add: Found the information. It would have been an form FS-240 or a DS-1350.

It wasn't a plane. It was one of Xenu's space ships. They only look like planes. BTW: Xenu's space ships where the vehicles used to bring down the twin towers and can be spotted in early news footage about the *time of the JFK assassination. Yep, Xenu, intergalactic ruler was behind that also.

*wiki claims the DC9 didn't start service until 3 years after Kennedy's death but that is just more proof that the CT is true.
