Seriously.

I mean the newest bit of GOP idiocy about sex comes from Tennessee.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/01/...ossible-to-get-aids-through-heterosexual-sex/

Tennessee state Sen. Stacey Campfield (R) falsely claimed on Thursday that it was nearly impossible for someone to contract AIDS through heterosexual contact.

“Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community,” he told Michelangelo Signorile, who hosts a radio program on SiriusXM OutQ. “It was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall.”

You all get that? Gaetan Dugas was screwing monkeys (and promoted to pilot). And now we have AIDS which, if you are heterosexual, apparently isn't a worry.

Is it just me, or is heterosexual rape becoming one of the safest forms of sex?

I'm beginning to believe the Dunning-Kruger Effect is the most powerful influence on the course of human history. We have people in office, and trying to get into office, who honestly believe they have a good grasp of history, economics, and science. They are very wrong but don't know it, and will not be educated because they think any attempt to enlighten them is politically motivated. Which of course it would be, because it's bad politics to have too many idiots in charge.

How many is too many? What is an acceptable idiot ratio? Does each side get a set number of idiots? Idiotic minds want to know! Because one thing is clear, there's no shortage of idiots in politics already.

Isn't lesbian sex the safest sex to have regarding not getting AIDS?

The individual stupid statement shouldn't be what's bothersome. What should be bothersome are the patterns:
  • Wide-ranging misinformation related to matters of sex and reproduction, including female body response to non-consensual sex, the effects of pregnancy upon female honesty, the effects of abstinence-only education, and the basics of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Ignorance of, or even worse, setting aside the heavy weight of evidence that goes contrary to one's already-held beliefs
  • An adamant refusal to learn or to consider evidence
  • A view that opinion, belief or faith is more important than evidence and actual reality
Most disturbing of all is the notion that stupidity may be the basis for policy. If a person believes that rituals will keep him safe from demonic attacks, then that belief arguably doesn't do much harm. But if that same individual is in a position of power and authority, and resolves to use public funds to address the "demon problem facing the nation," then his individual stupidity has become a basis for public policy, and that ought to be worrisome to every citizen.

Yep, explain the birds and the bees to them, kill two birds with one stone: They'll stop passing a lot of oppressive sex control laws and they'll stop asking "why don't we see monkeys evolving in to humans today?"

No, it doesn't. This is almost seven months old:

Looks like nobody else noticed yet either. Travis, I'm usually on your side, but could you please check your sources a little better in the future?

However, the story is still appalling.

Unless you share needles or engage in vampire-ism or a woman who engages in wrong way sex with a carrier, or has open STD sores, it is indeed virtually impossible.

Is the same party that Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Raygun and Shrub senior were members of?

its interesting that Reagan now looks like model of moderation.
