Antisemitism and The Goy

As is asked of cm up thread: why would another culture *require* a specific derogatory term for "non-Jewish'?

Do the Chinese have a specific derogatory term for "non-Vietnamese'?

Do Hawaiians have a specific derogatory term for "non-Icelandic'?

Do you see the issue?

Oh absolutely. In a passive-aggressive way I was trying to mock the OP for the inexactitude of his wording.

Semite
a. Jewish person who utterly despises the goyim

Anti-Semite
a. non-Jewish person who utterly despises the Jews

Semites are good, while Anti-Semites are evil.

Indeed it does - by you, thinking that such word usage is unique to a single religious or ethnic group.

You've shown YOUR true colours by singling them out.

Even for a merkin, that's pretty dense.
Clayton Moore is American? I am surprised.

Generally, antisemitic loons in US tend to be also anti-black, anti-Mexican, White Power Christians. Loons who are only anti-Jewish -- and especially those who (like Clayton) go to some pains to explain they are "only anti-Zionist", -- tend to spring from Europe.

But I suppose there are exceptions.

BTW, Russian language has a perfect word for all non-Russians -- "nyemetz". Which means "mute". Granted, over last 100 years or so "nyemetz" became synonymous with "German", but originally it meant all "others".

So, a Catholic in the west of Scotland or Northern Ireland calling a Protestant a Hun, or the Protestant calling Catholics Tims or Left-Footers is one example of two religious groups with derogatory words for each other.

"Some have been known to call me...Tim?"

On antisemitism: I once had an argument with someone who balked at my calling him an anti-Semite on the grounds that "Modern Jews are not Semitic people. Semites are Arabs and Persians."

That's right, the defense against the charge of antisemitism was to literally say "No, the Jews I hate are not Semitic!"

Y'all know that "goy" is primarily a Yiddish thing, right? It's not really used by Mizrahi or Sephardic Jews.

Yeah, it's a bit of historical woo which claims that modern Ashkenazi (Central/Eastern European) Jews are actually descended from a group of Khazars that converted 1000 years ago or so. There are numerous problems with this idea, ranging from genetic to linguistic to historical, but it's very popular with anti-Semites.

Now, now everyone. Clayton has said many times that he is not anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish, just anti-Zionist. That's why he, in the OP, asks why Zionists have a special word for non-Zionis...
oh, wait, never mind...

How can you be a Holocaust denier and not be anti-Jewish?

How can you be a Holocaust denier and not be anti-Jewish?

I am Jewish culturally (atheist by conversion and more anti-Zionist than pro-Zionist politically).

I can imagine in theory that one could be mislead into being a Holocaust denier and still not be anti-Jewish. I've never seen it in real life, however- or on the web. Hate first-denial next.

I work with a couple of Jewish guys who like to tell demeaning jokes about us, the Goy. Every time they do this I accuse them of being anti-gentile racists. Shuts them right up.

Certainly I have heard racist remarks from some of the people I know to be Jewish... I would like to believe racism/anti "goy" jokes, etc are at least a bit more rare among Jews because they have had the experience of being persecuted themselves. Jews certainly were and are prominent in the different civil rights movements.

But alas, the same percentage of Jews are jerks as are in any other human population. It has disappointed and embarrassed me when it happens, and I' ve called them on it when it happened. I am glad you have too. The good news is that young people are much less likely to do this. In fact, more and more Jews are marrying non-Jews(I did), so the whole issue will soon become meaningless. I am proud of both my and my spouse's heritages, and we taught both cultures to our kids. By the way, I hope this inter-marriage thing doesn't frighten Clayton too much- it sounds a bit like a conspiracy.

When I'm done guffawing.

What's so funny is how the home team is blathering antisemitism rather than discussing the why of

What is the purpose of these two unique words?
Imprinting of Jewish bigotry?
Seems like a purposeful intent toward conspiratorial exclusivity.
