Osama Bin Laden died of lung disease?

I already said why.
..............

That was why I don't believe he died his hair. For actual reasonable explanations, see above. Might explain to me the difference in the ears?
But you did not address this
The man was being hunted by the forces of several large countries and there was a bounty on his head. Its at least plausible that he deliberately changed his appearance even if JUST for the videos.

He might have changed some aspects of his appearance quite frequently and appeared slightly different in each video to make it more difficult to quickly get a positive ID in public.
Such a thing WOULD be allowed in the course of acting in a Jihad, and would have nothing to do with vanity and is thus not a sin.

The inspection of OBL's appearance reminds me of the exact same thing that is done with Paul McCartney in order to demonstrate that the man now calling himself Paul McCartney is not the same man as seen in the early "Beatles" photos.

There is a ton of videos of Bin Laden with grey or greying hair. That all of a sudden around 2004 or so he gets psychological issues about it, is just not credible.

Appeal to Incredulity.

Is this better?

Captain Blackbeard was embarrassed about his ears too and got plastic surgery?

Hotlinks removed, breach of rule 5.

It's so cute how you have to use images that each show different ears.

The inspection of OBL's appearance reminds me of the exact same thing that is done with Paul McCartney in order to demonstrate that the man now calling himself Paul McCartney is not the same man as seen in the early "Beatles" photos.

*There's* your evidence that OBL seen in one video is the exact same OBL seen in the other video. OBL never crossed Abbey Road barefooted.

Now that's a distortion. Plenty of new videos have arrived since that "confession video" showing versions of Bin Laden with distinctly different appearance: the Dyed Bin Laden and Old Man Bin Laden. To argue that this adds nothing new is blatantly false argumentation by using extrapolation from the "confession video". This ain't math, such extrapolations are not applicable.

I've misrepresented nothing. I repeat: Nothing anyone has presented - including you - since the original myth debuted has significantly improved it. I'm not extrapolating from a single video, I'm criticizing your lack of anything above bare assertion as well as telling you that you've resurrected an old, disproven myth. You've added nothing significant to it. The most you presented at the time I posted was a switch back and forth between black hair and grey in successive videos, and that doesn't cut it.

Occam's Razor applies: The supporting evidence you give for the appearance differences could be met with any one of a number of mundane explanations. As one example: You make hay over the fact that Peter Bergen commented negatively on Bin Laden's appearance, but you omit the fact that when Bergen saw him - 1997 - not only had Osama recently been expelled from the Sudan, and not only was he almost turned over to the Americans back then by the Sudanese government, but he had also lost a painfully significant amount of wealth due to corruption and opportunistic graft upon his explusion. And on top of that was aware that the Americans were hunting him. And had only recently relocated to a far more rugged and austere area - Afghanistan - at that time.

In short, he was under hideously severe stress and had not had significant successes to his name yet. There was plenty in his life to quite literally turn his hair gray and his appearance haggard.

After 2001, he had more experience at dealing with the threat from Americans, had the successful attack of September 11th under his belt, had the cooperation of the Taliban for support (and events now suggest that he had cooperation from people (the ISI?) in Pakistan as well, providing even more support to him and his organization). By 2003-04, he had also had even more years of successfully dodging intense attention from the US military and had seen the US get involved in Iraq, which from his point of view was evidence that the US could be drawn into costly conflicts and provided yet another "target market" for expanding Al Qaeda.

In short, while the threat to his life was even greater, life was arguably better for him. He was more popular, had significant successes under his belt, and had enough evidence from then current events to demonstrate that his worldview was becoming reality.

Not a single bit of that one possible explanation requires a conspiracy or even extraordinary presumptions. On the contrary, it's determinable from known events of his life. You don't even need hair coloring; all you need is an understanding of what took place in the years cited.

But faking him... that would require cooperation from Al Qaeda to not blow the whistle and embarrass the US ("You've been spending millions hunting a dead man, and we've been the ones yanking your chain the entire time"), cooperation from the news organizations (see above), cooperation of that Pakistani doctor who outed whoever this supposedly "fake" Bin Laden was in Pakistan last year... in short, you need a conspiracy. And you gave me no evidence for this conspiracy above and beyond a complaint about appearance.

See the problem? A mundane possible explanation drawn naturally from known events in his life can account for the appearance difference. It might even be the correct real world explanation, but regardless, what it doesn't impose is a cost of additional complications, each of which require additional proof of occurance.

Your need to provide better argument than what you gave. You cited an appearance difference that does not undo the weight of evidence, nor the lack of anyone betraying the secret, and that can be explained with a mundane possibility instead of an extraordinary, unsupported one. Minutiae regarding appearance doesn't support your thesis that the videos were faked.

That's under a right angle. Try the same angle as the "Bin Laden" with the black beard. This is a video of the real Bin Laden.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCE5fDpttyk&feature=related

OK, that just blew your own argument out of the window. If you had been arguing he was still alive that may have helped.
You challenged me with as ridiculous argument: "Why don't you ask his son whether it is him." I showed you the ridiculousness of that as Omar Bin Laden had no contact with his father for years and doesn't even believe he was killed in Abbottabad. His other sons are a little bit less available for asking to say the least.

The most you presented at the time I posted was a switch back and forth between black hair and grey in successive videos, and that doesn't cut it.
What's the most that has been presented to prove your point? Some undated videos, dubious audiotapes, as of 2004 videos of a weird looking Bin Laden and then some even weirder videos with no audio? And I am the crackpot?

I was referring to this interview with Bergen:

Slightly different time frame buddy.

You might want to read the link above then.

In short, while the threat to his life was even greater, life was arguably better for him. He was more popular, had significant successes under his belt, and had enough evidence from then current events to demonstrate that his worldview was becoming reality.
I guess that's why videos of the real him stopped coming around 2003. You're the guy swinging around with Occam's razor? Careful you don't cut yourself.

1. Not even "Al Qaeda", supposed it exists, has really had anything to say about Bin Laden for a long time so a LOT of people speculated after 2002 that Bin Laden was actually dead. It is possible it did not know itself what happened. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...ra-bora-air-raid-says-arab-expert-538318.html
2. News organizations often only report what information they are provided.
3. So, what has that Pakistani doctor stated in interviews? Oh wait, there are no interviews, right? No one has seen Shakil Afridi since after the events in Abbottabad, much like a body or other evidence of Bin Laden's death.

The standard here on JREF is that if you believe something exists (God, paranormal events or an event such as Bin Laden's death), verifiable evidence of this should be provided. What verifiable evidence is there of Bin Laden's death in Abbottabad? Let me see: NOTHING. You should be the one trying better arguments.

The mere fact that next to nothing has been said about Bin Laden still being alive by anyone with a similar Jihadist bent as OBL and the fact that most people chiming in about fake Bin Ladens are westerners with a political agenda says a lot to me about the veracity of the claims.

3. So, what has that Pakistani doctor stated in interviews? Oh wait, there are no interviews, right? No one has seen Shakil Afridi since after the events in Abbottabad, much like a body or other evidence of Bin Laden's death.

Well, he's kind of been in the custody of the Pakistani government since he was arrested a few days after the raid. He's currently serving a 33 year term for treason in a prison in Peshawar.

Prisoners in Pakistan generally aren't allowed to give media interviews, you know.

If Bin laden died around 2001 / 2002 then where is the evidence for that? Where are the photos?

What's the most that has been presented to prove your point? Some undated videos, dubious audiotapes, as of 2004 videos of a weird looking Bin Laden and then some even weirder videos with no audio? And I am the crackpot?

It's more than you provided.

And yes, you're the one making the conspiratorial claim that's contradicted by evidence you're handwaving away, and trying to support that claim with little more than appeals to incredulity as well as bare assertion. That makes you the crackpot.

I was referring to this interview with Bergen:

http://edition.cnn.com/2002/US/02/01/gen.bergen.cnna/index.html

Slightly different time frame buddy.

The tape Bergen's referring to was from October or December 2001, as per your link.
Peter Bergen said:
"The big difference is that he's aged enormously between '97 and October of last year"...

... "This is a man who was clearly not well. I mean, as you see from these pictures here, he's really, by December he's looking pretty terrible."
If you're talking October, that still puts his appearance in that tape prior to the fruits of his handiwork developing, and not-so-incidentally also puts it either right before or right after the US invasion of Afghanistan. Which would be very soon after the US was pressuring the hell out of the Taliban to turn him over. If you're talking December, that's either at the height of the battle of Tora Bora, or right after the end of it. Either way, that's still a severely high stress time, before the Iraq invasion and the expansion of the "franchise" there, before the severe criticism and degradation of the reputation of America, and before he was able to benefit from the safety of his eventual hideout in Pakistan. The point stands; in fact, it's strengthened by that timeline.

You need a better understanding of the details of that point in history than what you have.

Regardless, you're going about responding to me poorly, and in doing so you're missing my point. Even if I'm still wrong, that point is that there are still a host of explanations which require far less convolutions to known history than yours. Your argument fails lex parsimoniae. And that's what I've been telling you this entire time.

I guess that's why videos of the real him stopped coming around 2003. You're the guy swinging around with Occam's razor? Careful you don't cut yourself.

You continue to provide no real proof that the 2004 and 2007 videos were faked. You should look up petitio principii at some point to understand what's wrong with your statement there.

Anyway, take care in trying to turn someone's argument against them. Occam's Razor cuts you far deeper than it does any of us: Again, you're the one who's not providing any proof, yet is advancing a theory requiring the cooperation of a known terrorist organization, which has not been questioned in the news, has had multiple members captured, has been tracked since before 9/11, etc., and you're basing it on minute observation about appearance in videos. Apperance issues that, again, can have be explained by many mundane possibilities.

His razor is cutting you real deep.

1. Not even "Al Qaeda", supposed it exists,

Full stop right there. They exist. Read The Looming Tower and Ghost Wars at a minimum before trying that claim again. Also: http://www.911myths.com/index.php/Al_Qaeda_does_not_exist

Simply wishing they didn't exist doesn't cut it.

... has really had anything to say about Bin Laden for a long time so a LOT of people speculated after 2002 that Bin Laden was actually dead. It is possible it did not know itself what happened.

A LOT of people speculating doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the face of evidence. And again, nothing you've posted refutes the later videos after 2002.

I recall a couple of Iraqi Generals during the second invasion, as well as al-Zarqawi, mistakenly being reported as dead. Mistakes in the news can happen. Besides, that 2003 article is speculation by that Arabist. It doesn't change the fact that videos from 2004 and 2007 were released, and doesn't provide anything that contradicts them.

2. News organizations often only report what information they are provided.

Which doesn't stop them from blowing the whistle when the information they're provided is contradicted later. Research Iraq-WMD claims for a case study.

The claims you cite has resulted in practically zero whistles being sounded by that press.

3. So, what has that Pakistani doctor stated in interviews? Oh wait, there are no interviews, right?

No one has seen Shakil Afridi since after the events in Abbottabad, much like a body or other evidence of Bin Laden's death.

That tends to happen when police arrest you in a country that doesn't have the same civil-rights protections that western nations do. That's the danger in living in a dictatorship. Why paint that as mysterious? You must well know that his family has appealed to the US for aid in his release. Claiming suspicion about the lack of communication from a man who's been arrested in Pakistan is silly at best.

I'm falsifying yours and demonstrating their flaws. The very evidence demonstrating the falsity of his early death is the very evidence you're failing to refute. Trying to say that it's "NOTHING" is just hiding from the proof. All you present are, again, minutiae regarding his appearance. That fails to account for the lack of any other effects that would be evident from his death prior to 2011, not the least of which, again, is reaction from Al Qaeda itself.

Against that, you're facing the fact that Pakistan has reacted as though Bin Laden were indeed killed in 2011. You're facing the fact that the news organizations airing the videos have not questioned their authenticity, and have done little above trying to handwave that away. You're facing the fact that a doctor has been imprison in Pakistan for betraying Bin Laden to the US years after your claim of his early death, another inconvenient line of evidence you're merely handwaving at but failing to refute. You're facing the fact that the US spent much time, money, and resources to either fake his continued existence as well as his 2011 death. You're facing a mound of difficulties that your concentration on irrelevent, minute details in a video do not even begin to address.

That's your failing.

You need to provide something more profound than mere niggling details about a video. That fails to amount to anything more than a critique of appearance. It certainly doesn't amount to proving that he was long dead before 2011.

Well, he's kind of been in the custody of the Pakistani government since he was arrested a few days after the raid. He's currently serving a 33 year term for treason in a prison in Peshawar.

Prisoners in Pakistan generally aren't allowed to give media interviews, you know.

No kidding. It's flabbergasting he even tried to use that argument.

Prove that they didn't know what happened. They stated that OBL was dead. Either they were lying, or they were somehow very, very incorrect.

2. News organizations often only report what information they are provided.
Lol no.

3. So, what has that Pakistani doctor stated in interviews? Oh wait, there are no interviews, right? No one has seen Shakil Afridi since after the events in Abbottabad, much like a body or other evidence of Bin Laden's death.
Incredulity.

Ironic, since all you've got is incredulity.

DNA evidence (the exact same sort used on multiple occasions in the WoT, including on Saddam), testimony from his wife, his family, from Al Qaeda themselves. Or, if you prefer, a loosely-organized group of terrorists operating under OBL's leadership.
