Kevin Trudeau's latest con...

It's 400am and a show came on the History Channel called "Investigating Free Money". It is supposedly an indepth look at what is actually going on with Kevin Trudeaus "self help" stuff.

The show begins with the tone of an investigative journalist trying to expose a conman (kind of like the guy who tried to get an interview with Peter Popoff and Popoff almost ran him over). They do stuff like say "Nora claims to have gotten over a million dollars of government money by using Trudeau's book...but what's really going on here?? We confronted Nora at her home" then there's the scene of them running up to her door and banging.

But it quickly becomes obvious what is going on here. This is just another of Trudeau's oinfomercials Because Trudeau has been banned from making infomercials, he's changed tactics. He's changed the fake interviews with the "World's foremost (whoever)" style of show with a fake investigative journalism show that even highlights Trudeau's past trouble and bad reputation. And because Trudeau himself can't appear in infomercials, they are only talking about him and holding up pictures.

The "investigative journalists" out to find the hard facts are...finding that Trudeau is totally legite and you can't go wrong with Kevin Trudeau.

What he's doing now is the most despicable thing he's ever done. This is manipulation at it's worst. It's the classic two man con game. One group comes in to warn the mark that this Trudeau guy might not be on the level. So they come to ask the hard questions. But in their investigation they find that Kevin actually is on the level!

And we know we can trust them because they were skeptical at first but now even they have been convinced!

So now when you try to tell someone whose been givin a Trudeau book that he is a known con man and has been under investigation, they will say "No, I saw the investigators, they came and realized everything was on the up an up. In fact, the investigators even started telling us what other great offers there were if we just bought his "Free Money" book.

Jeez oh' Man; this is the kind of con game right out of The Sting or Matchstick Men.

It's probably an infomerical;if memory serves THC basically sells it's early morning programming to anybody with an informercial and the cash to buy time.

If he's been banned from making infomercials then he should be reported, because this is an infomercial.

It was my understanding that he was just banned from selling diet pills.

It is possible that he's banned from APPEARING in infomercials, but I have seen a couple of infomercials selling his "products". He doesn't appear in them. That might actually be a benefit to him, because it makes him appear to be too important and/or too big a celebrity to be bothered with unimportant details like advertising.

Last time I saw a Trudeau infomercial, it was on one of the major stations here in Dallas (channel 8 IIRC), and I wrote a nice email to the programming director, pointing out how he's actually harming people, and that I expect that a station with a good reputation for news like theirs has, would not air this kind of garbage. I got a nice reply from her saying that they had brought this to the attention of the people who decided to air it, and it wouldn't happen again.

Wow, really? I guess I'm just really cynical. Do you really think they won't air it again? If so that's awesome.

Ah, the nostalgia. On some level, I have to thank Kevin Trudeau in a way. He's the one who made me aware of the JREF and made me re-evaluate my thinking process to eventually gain skeptical and critical thinking skills on a deeper level.

I remember watching a Kevin Trudeau infomercial on "Natural Cures" and thought, at the time, "Wow this is amazing, the FDA storming a man's house for bread. Those evil people, keeping natural cures away from us! Damn the government!"

Then after the infomercial was over, I went to the internet to try to find other accounts of this... I couldn't find any. I then typed "Kevin Trudeau Scam" into Google and found a SWIFT article James Randi wrote, and shortly after that, found a bunch of James Randi videos, and read other articles he had made.

Thanks Kevin Trudeau, for teaching me to recognize your BS! :D

My boss at my previous place of employment was a huge Trudeau fan and would find any excuse to sing his praises. He could go on for hours. After the first week of working there I decided these "discussions" (which often became quite heated) were a waste of time and I always found an excuse to leave the room if he started blabbering on.

He did not seem sad when I put in my notice.

We should get together to produce an infomercial of our own that REALLY "Investigates" it and exposes all the BS for the world to see in its full steaming, stinking glory! Then premiere it on the interwebs all over the place, or even better make it as part of a giant skepticism show for broadcast TV!

Too bad that one can't just shut this guy down for good. The media channels are complicit in a way by agreeing to air his programming.

I’m conflicted over this. On the one hand, people need to be protected from con artists. On the other hand, in this age of the internet and information-at-your-fingertips, idiots who fall for such obvious scams deserve no sympathy (except insofar as they cannot help being born stupid). It’s the time-honoured way of redistributing wealth from the moronic to the unprincipled.

Sounds like you seem to want it to continue so as to "punish" them for being stupid, which is, well, bad, as you yourself admitted they can't help it if they're stupid. People should only be punished for things they can choose.

To me it's pretty clear. Criminals, crooks, sleazes, etc. should not be allowed to get away with their wrongdoing. Plain and simple.

That's exactly how I got into the skeptic movement, just with Kevin Trudeau switched with Uri Geller. I saw this thing about Uri Geller and it was totally uncritical. I was like many people who had the opinion that "I don't believe in magic or gods or stuff like that but we don't know everything so maybe, if there really are unknown powers, maybe this guy has figured something out."

So I looked him up in the internet (this was when the internet was really new) and I found this video about Uri Geller (it took about an hour to load each part). The first part was with Geller doing his schtick. Then this old guy came on and said that Geller was an utter fraud who was doing simple magic tricks. At first I was kind of upset with the guy because he seemed like he was just being a downer but, as I listened, I thought "okay, well that might be a good point but the rest...well, sure and that is a legitimate point too...but still..."

Within ten minutes of listening to Mr. Randi explain how to look at Uri Geller (and life in general) with a skeptical eye, my life was changed forever.
