Hey guys, I'm Niall from Australia.

I don't really know what else to say. I'm really interested in nutrition and human health, science and technology (massive audio buff) and various other things. I work in Engineering and consider myself a skeptic and athiest.

Good to be here.

Yay! Another Sandgroper for our collection!

Good to have you here, mate.

Hello everyone, I am a college student with a strong interest in biology and genetics entering his fourth semester. Learning how to think more critically has changed my life around and gave me the clear-headedness and motivation to succeed in college after having dropped out of high school. Having spent a paranoid childhood enamored with recreational drugs and various forms of woo, the message of folks from the James Randi Educational Foundation and other skeptic and atheist groups has truly been a life saver for me personally. My skeptical journey began not long ago and I realize that I have a long road ahead of me, so I'm not here to act as if I am an authority on any subject in particular. I've been reading the forums for a while now and have learned quite a bit from observing everyone's thoughts, so I finally decided to make an account and give my 2 cents where I feel it might contribute or I might learn something. Keep up the good work everyone.

Hello everyone.
I am a person who enjoys exposing quacks, psychic frauds, plastic shamans etc.
One of my favourite subjects is corrupt and / or deluded psychotherapists, recovered memories, satanic ritual abuse, MPD / DID etc.
I recently had the misfortune to be in a therapy group where I was exposed to a lot of this kind of insanity.
The truly bizarre thing is that ritual abuse does exist and is very widespread, however the abusers are not Satanists but predatory psychotherapists who claim to be able to recover memories with massage and breathing techniques that activate chakras. Or something.
I am also interested in the use of conspiracy theories by religious cults in order to abuse and manipulate people.
Er, so that's me :)

G'day. Have a chat to Legend, a sandgroper and Weagles supporter. Smartest young bloke I've come across (don't tell him I said that ;))

For those of you that have been lurking and only just registered, you'll notice a few new sections are availible including Members Only that houses the Community, Humor, Sports, Movies, etc. subforums. This isn't just a place to learn and/or discuss, it's also a place to socialize with your fellow skeptics.

Second that. I've met a number of forumites in real life, and am planning to visit some in England next year. This place can be a better community than some more physical ones.

G'day, I'm Shiner.

After lurking sporadically for the last six months or so, I've taken my "leap of certainty". I've been cutting my teeth over at Australasian Skeptics under the helpful and very friendly (mostly) guidance of Orphia, Akhenaten and co.

Still, I find this place a bit intimidating and bewildering.

I consider myself a skeptic, I didn't have any woo shoved down my throat as a kid, but didn't have much guidance either. I basically work things out myself. Sometimes my logic is flawed, but this usually becomes apparent soon enough. To be corrected with evidence is to learn, and I love to learn.

I would probably go into the "Anti-establishment" brigade, but I am a productive member of society and a consumer. So? It is more flawed logic.
I abhor most of the Communist and Socialist ideology, think the world is overpopulated, can't stand the stupidity of religions, Bigfoots etc, (we call 'em Yowies) and was very breifly entertained by some CT's in the aftermath of 9/11. But bunk usually reveals itself under scrutiny.
I also find some skeptics can get caught up in belief systems, without neccesarily considering all the evidence/possibilities.

Anyway that's me in a (cracked?) nutshell.:boggled:

ETA. Big thumbs up to happyskeptic. A rare stance in todays corporate environment.

G'day Akh, g'day lionking, I lurk in the gorges NW of Sydney on the bank of the Hawkesbury and the edge of the Wollemi. Yowie territory.:p
:D Black Panthers too!

Hi Orph, It's really big innit? Things have have gone a bit quiet at ASF.
I can see why now. You all spend more time here. . . . . .

Did the Australasians ever actually attract any Asians? I did drop in for a visit at one point and it seemed that it was Aussie Aussie Aussie Oy Oy Oy. Not that I don't find you lot bewildering and charming, but I was hoping for other Asian Skeptics. There's lots of stuff over here(well up here to you lot) that needs a skeptic's touch, and the chat boards for most countries are, well, .... crap.
