Presidential Suicide?

I wonder. From Yahoo answers, there were about 8.9 per 100,000 in the US last year. x 74 year average lifespan gives us a little more than 0.5% of everybody who dies, which is everybody, dies by suicide.

As Obama is 44th, the presidency hasn't quite yet achieved a 50% chance of a suicide. And that's vs. the general population, not vs. above-average intelligence people who are world class social manipulators and climbers.

Actually, you'd have to take that and divide, hmm, say 6 years in office on average / 74 years eh I'm getting tired of calculating.

And how many 99 year old presidents have we had? How many 19 year olds? How many females?

If we do the math within the age/gender/etc. range over hundreds of years of Presidents, we could have expected a suicide or two by now.

I've known and had friends that have taken that unfortunate course of action and I have yet to wrap my poor tiny mind around the idea at all. But that's not related to this thought, although a recent class reunion and that topic were one of the things the ball bounced off of...

What's it take to 'prop up' a Government? Find out when an unexpected scandal causes the Commander and Chief to check himself out early. Now it's up to his two wild a crazy nephews to hide the news from everyone and save the Republic from its complete collapse! It's, "Weekend at 1600" !!!

Exercising the greatest power in the world, sought after by these planetary-level power-hungry people could drastically minimize the chance of suicide. Nobody knows. This is good reason to doubt they'd be even at the average, much less above average, risk of suicide.

As I argued, they're only just now approaching a 50% chance in a whole lifetime for 44 people that one could be expected to suicide. This is much reduced for just the average 6 years in office (or whatever it is.)

That's what being a skeptic is about, if you ask me. Learning not to rely too heavily on chin-rubbing Rube Goldbergian chains of rationalizations in the mind as substitution for actual measured reality.

It's a good starting point for suggesting tests, but beyond that, they are just theories like any other.

I'm not saying you're wrong, though I do have my own theory in opposition. The point is nobody knows the actual likelihood.
